Just watched Elon and huang on stage together for a Saudi Arabian forum.

They’re answering questions about the future and other issues.

A few takeaways-

Elon-
-In @20 years there’d be no need for currency.
-He then went on to say that with AI and robotic advances, there’d be a large reduction in poverty.
-He said work will be voluntary. People can work if they want to but not necessary for most.
-Humanoid robots will be the biggest thing ever.

Huang said that AI would replace jobs but that people will still work but much differently.
There will be something called accelerated computing.
-AI bubble- there is a lot more to be built so he doesn’t acknowledge a bubble.
-Working with Saudi Arabia to build supercomputers including accelerated computers which is the future.
- computer usage will be much more specific to the user. The internet in particular will be much more refined to the users wants/needs.

Both agreed that we will need massive power advances. Electricity generation is incredibly challenging. Elon said space has to be used for power needs.

I found it amazing to see these 2 tech and business icons on stage at the same time.

We aren't ready for a post-scarcity society. We still have far too many Clevon's.

For the possible/probable long-term ramifications of a society not ready for post-scarcity, see: Universe 25.

I think of that experiment every time this comes up

I think people will find out in a very difficult way that humans aren't particularly good at having nothing to do

People will still want to steal, kill, and destroy. If everyone acted right, elon might be able to be proven right. But there will always be protestors, disruptors, malcontents that will burn everything productive and efficient down to the ground. A story as old as time.

Sounds like Saudi already just w humanoid robots instead of TCNs (Third country nationals).

They couldnt care less about poverty until it impacts their ability to recruit and exploit desperate third world laborers. Then they might have to buy some robots of their own.

Elon is so delusional it’s crazy. No need for currency in 20 years?

Sounds like something an ambitious child would dream up. Maybe 200 years, who knows

Didn’t you hear him last week say that the robots would be given to criminals and would prevent them from committing crimes.

Yeah and if Elon really believes no need for currency then why is he pushing so hard for the trillion dollar pay package

I don't know about steal. In a post-scarcity society, everyone has access to everything.

Want some Air Jordans made to the original specs? Done.
Want a new Jaguar? Done.
Need to add a floor to your home? Done.

Now those are quite a bit further down the road of automated production of everything, but it gives you an idea.

In such a world, one in which there's no need to steal (unless you're just a klepto).

Killings would likely still happen and would likely be increasingly over trivial matters.

Destruction though... that there would be aplenty. If every product you see is essentially disposable (because a group of robots will just make you another), for many they would have little value beyond their immediate utility.

Busted up that 75" TV after throwing your chair through it because your team lost? No biggie, just have the Amazon robots build, deliver and set up a new one for you tomorrow.

Without goals to work toward, many (maybe even most) people would flounder in finding productive outlets for their time and energy.

Nice. So I’m sure he wouldn’t mind sending me $20 billion in 20 years.
