Everyone qualifies including 1099 self-employed who typically do not pay into unemployment.
Is it possible that this varies by state?
My father worked for a small business that had not paid in to unemployment and was denied unemployment pay because of it.
I don't know much more detail other than that. Maybe there was extenuating circumstances.

Damn almost $800 a week and you can work all week making cash somewhere else. shite I could make $2000 a week unemployed

Just to make sure I was clear about our experience. My wife has beauty shop, sole proprietorship, no employees. She called LA workforce last Thursday. Waited on hold for one hour. Talked to representative and he said he thought self employed people like her would be covered but “program” wasn’t in place yet. Advised her to file for unemployment anyway. He took all of her info and filled application for her. Friday she gets automated email saying she qualifies for zero. Reason was no work history last two years. My thinking is yes there is no work history because unemployment taxes have not been paid for her and her employment record isn’t in LAWorks system. He told her before they hung up to keep checking LAWorks website for update that they will post when program for self employed people is finalized. Just waiting but just feel in limbo.
I would think that they would put something out saying they are at least working on getting a system in place for these types of claims. Lots of people in same boat. I’m sure they are getting lots of calls about this.

no. see link i posted on first page. This bill covers whole nation. It is NOT a state plan. This is FEDERAL.

yeah, sure. Normally that is correct. This is a whole new ball of wax. That is why it is called:

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, that extends benefits to gig workers, contractors and others who wouldn't otherwise qualify for unemployment compensation

I wasn't talking about the new program passed, just unemployment in general.
Obviously if the new program covers those who haven't paid in, then it will take a while to get implemented. Initial denial would be from not paying in if I had to guess since the system is not up.

What if 1099 is still working but hours are cut in half?

Update... I emailed LAWORKS asking about my wife’s eligibility as self employed and got this response
“You should file a claim just like we're suggesting everyone to do - even if it says you're "monetarily ineligible" - keep filing every week. When the federal programs are implemented, everyone will qualify.”
Looks like it’s coming but programs aren’t in place yet.

How secure is the LAWorks website? I have to believe with a rushed rollout of a modified system there will be ample opportunities for identity thieves.

My wife has an LLC operating as an SCorp and she’s the only employee in her business. She’s only been in business for 2 years. In both years the business has operated at a net loss and thus she has not had to do payroll.
Does anyone know if she would qualify for the EIDL grant, the PPP loan, or unemployment?
Having a hard time finding out what she would qualify for based on her unique situation.
TIA

It’s not just Louisiana. Unemployment for the self employed is on hold everywhere.

Seems to me since self employed get screwed having to pay double SS/FICA taxes and get hammered on health insurance if they don't have a spouse with employer insurance, they should definitely be getting assistance at a time like this.
