Nothing nefarious going on. Just two people who own an LLC and seeing if one can get a card the other has gotten for business purposes.

Forgot to mention.
Which Chase Ink card do they have?
Bold and Plus were separate products so if they applied for Ink Preferred now they could earn the bonus.

Never thought about it before but credit card cash back is not taxable. I farm for a living and the company I buy my inputs from do not offer a cash discount but also do not charge extra for credit card purchases. I got the Citi double cash card and it pays 2% back on all purchases with no limits on cash back. I can charge a couple hundred thousand on it throughout the year and then get a check from them at the end of the year that does not count as income. This is a great deal if you are self employed.

Or use a card that produces UR points or miles and potentially get more than a .02 return if you're a traveler.

What card gives unlimited points on every purchase not just certain categories?

Most of them. Chase Sapphire Reserve, Amex Gold personal or business. Same with Platinum which got an upgrade to its rewards. All of the airline branded or hotel branded cards. There are tons of cards that don't restrict the number of points/miles you can earn with them.

So if anyone was curious my wife now has her 6th open Chase personal card. This is the second time she's had a United card. The offer was 70k plus 5k for AU (one purchase) after 3k spend so 78,000 miles on her United account.
I'll drop myself as the AU down the road after I make the purchase.
Apparently Chase has changed their two year bonus policy slightly. Now they won't approve your card if you had received the bonus in the last 24 months. They will just deny outright. Before it was possible to get the card but not earn the bonus if you screwed up the timing. Not something you should mess up to begin with but now there's a "control".

Question for the award booking folks.
If I have an international business saver award, but the domestic leg from my home airport to the international gateway is only available at Standard Economy, will that be bookable for being added on at no additional point cost? I'm aware I'd probably pay the dollar fee for changing my award ticket.
Seems to me that it may since I'm paying the Business rate and business saver or econ saver would have ticketed if available, that standard would as well.
Thanks
In other news there is a $109 fare on Frontier to IAD for the date I need to connect there the day before our trip out of there to Africa. Even if we check our bags for that leg due to Frontier's policy, it would be super cheap but I'm not too sure about Frontier on the front end of an Africa trip.

No. It will have to be a saver award. Biz or Econ. As long as its saver, either one of those would be a free add-on.
That said, I would still call in and a couple times to see if they can do something for you.

Ya, that was what I figured. Thanks.
Not too big a deal. There's a southwest flight to DCA for $245 that I have enough points with SW to cover 1 ticket on if I need to.
I have to eye JFK to AUS though. United doesn't fly that route but American and Delta have nonstops (and Jetblue but their schedule sucks). Not enough scrap Skypesos to cover as of now
One day I'll pay someone to burn my 250,000 American miles.

Etihad has a decent footprint in Africa does it not? Could've maybe used them on your Africa trip.

As far as I know, the best way to Africa with American was via Qatar/Doha with regards to the special exemption Doha receives in their routing rules so you don't get charged for each segment since Europe is the only continent besides Doha you are allowed to transit to Africa. I didn't find any thing for our dates though.
My wife gives me pretty specific dates that I end up having to work with, instead of the ideal scenario where dates/destinations choose your vacation.
Hence why United/Star Alliance end up working for us more often than not.

As it almost always does. Love *A for this reason.

Needing a little help. I am making a weekend trip to houston in a couple of weeks. I was going to transfer some of my UR points over to Marriott to pay for the room. My understanding is the points are 1:1 The price of the Room is 159 but the points cost is 25,000. Am I missing something here? I thought it would be 15,900 or 16k points. Any help or better way to do this is appreciated. TIA

You're conflating Marriott's program with Chase's.
If you transfer your points to Marriott you fall under their rules for redeeming.
If you keep your points with Chase your points are worth a fixed amount, ie 1.25 or 1.5 cents per dollar.
Either way using points for a $159 hotel room is a shitty redemption at the level of points needed.
If I were you I would Google as much as I could about the Chase UR program and read blogs before you cost yourself hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

The points are a a 1:1 transfer, e.g. 1,000 UR points will become 1,000 Marriott points. That doesn't necessarily mean that 10,000 Marriott points is worth $100.
If you aren't married to the Marriott, the Hyatt Regency in Houston is very nice and is only 12,000 points per night.

Thanks. I am a rookie at this but have managed to stockpile a good chunk of points. Just kind of wanted to use some. Sometimes I feel like I just save and save and never use them.
I'll look into the Hyatt as well.

Transferring UR or MR points to hotels is usually a bad redemption.
The way to do this if you have to do it is to transfer MR points to Starwood at 1000:500 and then tranfer Starwood points to Marriott at 1000:3000.
Then 1000 MR points becomes 1500 Marriott points. At least then you get a premium for the points. Transferring UR points at 1000:1000 makes no sense at all as you found out.

The Citi Double Cash is the best for me. I don't eat out alot, I love never flown, and I use my credit card like a debit card. I pay the balance of every morning.
