Ya, I figured you could trigger it through some transfers. I have done that with Serve IIRC.

I've just been kind of meh about it lately. Perhaps I should expend some effort.

If I get the Chase Sapphire Reserve, I'm going to open an account at PNC. Dr of credit or whatever says it codes as a purchase up to $2k.

I was worried about the same. However, there are ways to trigger DD and some bonuses don't even require a DD.

For ex:

1) Chase Personal Checking - I got the $300 bonus. This required a DD. A cash out from simply best coupons where I receive cb for VGC purchases. Counts as DD. Pretty sure Schwab account withdrawal will do the trick as well. Also, a ACH from local credit union works. I actually did all three in the week

2) Chase Business Checking - I got the $500 bonus for merely opening the account and deposit $500 in it. Boom. Nothing else needed.

3) Iberia Personal - I got $300 for opening the account and doing a couple bill pays

4) Whitney - $200 for opening the account and doing 5 debit card transactions.

Were all of these targeted offers? I did one for USAA and got $300.

No. None of these were targeted. I think for the USAA one you have to be army or some other army affiliation.

I got my denial letter from Citi. It said too many recent inquiries. Called them, they won't reconsider. I don't have any other Citi cards.
I had gotten AMex, Hyatt, Freedom Unlimited, and Sapphire Preffered in last few months.
Guess my sign up bonuses are over for a while...unless anyone thinks of another card I might get approved for. I figure if Citi denied me then anyone else would too. But 4 cards doesn't seem like a lot to me. I've heard of people getting more in a short time frame.
I closed a Chase Slate card today thinking that may help, but now I'm reading it may not.
I want a card that will give airline travel. need to get wife on board with this little hobby.

Expound?

I've been thumbing my nose at that offer for years because I don't feel like talking to payroll at work.

I'm not sure what to think about the realization I just came to that I've gotten to the point where a conversation and a little paperwork isn't worth $300 to me

Yeah. Its an easy $300. About an hour's worth of work. I did it over my lunch break and made $300 so not too bad. Like I said - there are a number of ways to trigger the direct deposit without it being an actual DD. But chances are, if you don't find it worth the effort as is, you may not want to do anything else anyway

In case you were wondering - an ACH from a local CU account more often than not triggers the DD for the bonus. If you have a retirement/brokerage account, that usually counts as well. PayPal didnt for me, neither did venmo. However, there is anecdotal evidence of both working.

Citi is picky and unflinching when it comes to inquiries.

Until very recently, there had been only Visa Infinite - the CNB visa. That required applicants to have a min 100K annual household income. Very recently the Ritz card was converted to a Visa Infinite and it didn't matter what your income was. But that could just be because it was a mere product change.

Currently it is just speculation because the minimum income requirement for the only Visa Infinite we knew about was the CNB visa. And we did not know if it was a Visa Infinite requirement or CNB bank requirement. All we know is the minimum CL you need to be approved for for a Visa Infinite is $15K.

Unless I have missed critical information, the high min. annual income is currently just speculation.

Disclaimer: I'm not a Chase ITK.

I can change all my HR stuff online and they make it possible to split it into multiple accounts. So a thirty minutes visit to the bank, and about five minute to set it up online.

I would have to have a real conversation with a real person, and that sounds absolutely exhausting :hmph:

To be honest if I had to talk to HR and all that, I might not have done it

I am interested in an American Express Platinum Card and probably soon since I am flying internationally next month. Some background, I have had only American express Blue for 12 years but recently got the CSP card with the 50K bonus. This thread has inspired me to broaden my cards.

I recently received targeted offers for the Platinum business (100,000 points with $10,000 spending) AND Platinum personal 50,000 points with $5,000 spending. Assuming I can meet the spending on one of the cards:

1. Is the business card the no-brainer over the personal given the extra 50,000 points? I occasionally do some consulting, so I could claim a legitimate business, although I rarely have a "business" expense.

2. I would use the business card exclusive for normal, personal purchases - not business purchases. That is perfectly okay right?

3. Is there any way if I call them they give me the business deal (100K points) on the personal card?

4. I am planning a honeymoon next summer, maybe to Hawaii but nothing set in stone yet. What would be the best way to spend/transfer say 100K CSP points and 110K+ American Express points.

4) In economy, pretty much anywhere is possible. Dream big if you want. Hawaii is easy. 25K per person RT from anywhere in the continental US.

For more aspirational awards like flying F Suites etc., little more planning is involved. But seems like you have enough time for that. Pick a destination, figure out what kind of CC exposure you want to deal with (aka can you apply for more cards? Can you meet min spends on all?).

Tl;Dr

1) What would be your dream trip?
2) Can you apply for more cards and meet min spends?
3) Are you ok with economy or would you like Business/First?

Since you have enough time, people on here, including me, can probably help you with how to go about actually doing it.

If you want to do your entire honeymoon on points, you will require a strategy which will probably need you to hold off on the AmEx cards. If you are only looking to get 1-2 more and are fine covering part of your trip with points and part with $$, then that is a different story.

1) dream trip is probably something all inclusive beach trip - maybe hawaii

2) I should be able to meet minimum spending limits especially since I will be paying for an expensive wedding over the next 9-10 months (I assume most things can be spent on credit cards). However, I have spent my whole life with one card, so the idea of jumping to 7 or 8 cards in a year makes me uneasy for whatever reason.

3)Fine with economy but would love business class for a honeymoon, especially since my fiancee has never flown business

4)I am fine with paying for part of it. Reducing the cost substabtially with points would be nice.
