The worst possible outcome. Anbang has dropped out and Marriott buying Starwood. At a higher price.
Yeah that sucks. I think the Chinese government played a part in that. Very disappointing.
One silver lining is that some of SPG's "Luxury collection" properties might be bookable now using free nights at any Marriott. SPG currently charges upwards of 60k points a night for some of these properties.

Alaska’s premium Emirates awards have long been known as an exceptionally good deal. With the rise of “travel-hacking,” intended to exploit Mileage Plan’s award routing rules, coupled with below-market award levels, our previous award levels were unsustainable. The new award levels enable Alaska to continue to offer Emirates Business Class and First Class as a redemption option.
Statement from Alaska. Yeah...That's what I said
Honestly, the real problem is the BoA credit card. They simply should've worked with BoA to make their cards less churnable.

Annual fee just hit on second Barclay Aviator Red. It looks like they are still trying to hold on to customers. Fee waived without hesitation.

What is the point of keeping CSP past the one year mark? The signup bonus is fantastic, but the rewards at face value do not seem amazing, especially with a $90 annual fee. Even with a transfer to United or SW or Hyatt, it seems like you may be looking at 2 points on the dollar.
What am I missing?

Do you have the Freedom or the Ink?
If you have the Freedom and are maxing or hitting a majority of the quarterly 5x bonuses, then you'll need to transfer those to a UR card like the CSP or Ink. If I wasn't using the Freedom, then I'd likely cancel the CSP.
It would be hard to justify the $90 fee outside of that IMO.

Do you rent cars? Even if you rented a car once and saved on the insurance there (CSP provides free primary), you could make back your AF and more. The $95 AF for me is a no brainer due to this reason alone.
Not good when airlines are catching on

From your posts it sounds like you occasionally carry balances when you use your cards. Rule #1 of airline rewards is no carrying balances. Period.
The rewards cards rarely have the lower interest rates. If you are carrying balances, you need to focus on the lowest apr's possible not the points. Buying $1500 in Amazon gift cards for $75 cash back and then paying interest on the purchase would be a terrible financial move for example.
Sorry if I misinterpreted or read into your posts.
It's very seldom I carry a balance on a card for more than a month. Usually it's for an unexpected purchase like replacing tires on a vehicle or something similar. Other than that, we pay off the balances regularly.
I guess the thing that turns me off to the Chase Freedom is the fact that I have to activate the rewards offers when they come out. I'm not one that regularly pays much attention to those offers . I guess I just don't play the CC game very well.

Its a 1-click activation, 4 times a year.

Yes but the insurance is covered through my work card.

I guess that is irrelevant to you then. See what LSUAfro said. You need either the CSP or the Ink to be able to transfer points out to transfer partners. So if you want to close the CSP, get the Ink first. Get another 60K while you're at it.

Cool - in that case, it sounds like you know which purchases would need to be carried when they are made, so just throw those onto the card that has the lowest APR and proceed as usual with the other cards that earn rewards.

I would go as far to say that don't make those purchases at all. But I'm not your FA
For everyone who is trying to get to 110K for CP and wants to cover the $6k to get there. on 4/4/2016, Choice Points will go on sale. Get your 20,000 points (that will convert to little over 6K SW points) for $90.

I want to add that Fidelity is offering a 2% cash back Visa to your Fidelity brokerage account with no annual fee. May be a good everyday card for some.

Soooooooo don't replace tires on vehicles when they're worn out or flat?

Got the rejection letter on the Chase FU. Bummed. Have you guys heard whether a call to reconsideration will yield anything of use? The stated reason for denial is too many cards in last 2 years, which obviously is in line with the 5/24 rule. I would be happy to reduce CL on another card and not get the bonus on the FU, but i don't know if they'd care?

So long SPG. 2016 is proving to be rather rough
It's not done yet, is it? I just mailed my proxy against the buyout. I'm assuming they need a majority of shareholders ok?
Also, just got my SPG Biz in the mail and put the $1,000 deposit down on a Tesla
It's fully refundable so hopefully this does count against my $5k spend though

Have had chase sapphire for about 2 years and i have been accumulating travel points. but this credit card charges 100$ annual fee which i think is a scam.
I'm looking to close this account and get a another card with similar perks in terms of travel points.
any recommendations?
