Damn! My shite got closed as well.
My best run was with blue bird though. I manufactured a shitload of points. Even after they stopped allowing purchases with credit cards, I had a hook up at a gas station outside of Camp Lejeune who let me buy them for months.

Ah you still can. Just don't completely abuse it. Pay a couple bills and swipe it on small purchases here and there.

I'm concerned about the loads though. I'm wondering if I would be ok since its the newer one vip...maybe they're trying to get rid of the older versions.

Alright guys, I need some advice for 2016. Currently, I am sitting at:
120k Chase UR
120k Avios
37k Skymiles
Next Christmas, the wife and I are taking a trip to Italy and so everything this year will be focused towards that trip.
The BA Visa Signature card is currently offering:
I already have 120k Avios and the bonuses will put me at 220k plus the spending so somewhere around 300k avios. I will definitely put $30k spending on the card this year, earning the Travel Together ticket (can be used for first class).
Thoughts? Any other ideas?

quote:
50,000 bonus Avios after you spend $2,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.
Plus earn an additional 25,000 bonus Avios when you spend $10,000 on purchases for a total of 75,000 bonus Avios.
Plus earn another 25,000 bonus Avios when you spend a total of $20,000 on purchases within your first year for a total of 100,000 bonus Avios.
Every calendar year you make $30,000 in purchases on your British Airways Visa card, you'll earn a Travel Together Ticket good for two years.
In addition to the bonus Avios, you will also get 3 Avios for every $1 spent on British Airways purchases and 1 Avios for every $1 spent on all other purchases.

Because of the distance to Italy it's a much better value to use AA miles to travel there on British Airways. BA redemptions are calculated by distance and legs.
Posted on 1/8/16 at 11:17 am to VABuckeye
Can you explain that? I have always been a Delta guy and no nothing about AA
My main motivation for the was the companion ticket but if there is a better way - I'm all for it

Where are you originating?
Do you want to fly coach/biz/first?

If you have the spend for the companion ticket that may be your best bet.
A quick peak shows that a business class flight to and from Rome from Dulles airport would cost 137750 Avios per person plus the fuel surcharge of $1035.
The exact same flights booked with American Airlines miles would cost 100000 AA miles plus $1035.
Those are per person rates. Using AA miles to fly internationally on British Airways is preferred as the mileage chart works in your favor.
If you do this you will love Club World which is British Airways business class to London.

If you choose to purchase a ticket and use a companion pass the ticket alone will cost $4790 at a minimum and the companion pass may also bear the fuel surcharge of $1035.
Use the miles. It's a better value.

Cool, I am just weighing my options at this point. I am going to be flying quite a bit this year and just planning ahead on which card to get. I will be flying 50-50 AA and Frontier so I definitely want to go with an AA card.
I have only booked domestic rewards flights with BA (which it looks like they're getting devalued or going away), they were a steal last year. I just don't want to waste my 120k Avios.

I'd definitely transfer those points to Iberia Avios from British Avios. It's a free transfer.
Flights from Chicago or Miami with a layover in Madrid and a final destination of Rome will run you 57.5k + $110 per person one way in business class on the longhaul and coach on the 1.5 hour flight from MAD-ROM. Business class in Europe isn't worth the extra points. All they do is keep the middle seat open between 2 people in a 3 x 3 layout.
It won't be as nice as Club World, but it has been getting decent reviews and won't hit you with the ridiculous fuel surcharge.

Thanks man
It's amazing how much these programs change. I was churning like crazy in 2014 and burning through points/miles for trips.
Got out of the USMC and got super busy at work last year and didn't travel at all (outside of work).
Now that I'm back in the game, everything has changed and been devalued.

Avios are still the best bang for the buck domestically. They've taken a hit for sure though.

Iberia is a solid value. I just prefer the bed. It helps make the transition easier.
I agree about business class in Europe. It's coach with an open seat.

Anyone have the Citi Prestige? These benefits almost look too good to be true.

No doubt. Seems like every 2-3 years all of the major programs will have made a noticeable change to their program.
As long as the airlines are recording record profits and flying out with record loads, we won't see them giving back to the frequent flyer community.

That's what I hear. Never flown either. I fly Iberia this summer for the first time. I imagine at some point, I'll find myself on a BA flight and hopefully be able to compare the two.

I think Teddy does. I will be getting it and a United card some time this spring.
I wonder if Teddy's gravy train "soft serve" card got shut down? I'm guessing he's finding his way back to reality right about now.

You wish MFer.
Got my loads in already this month.
I'm back in New Orleans. The transition would have been easier if my stomach wasn't rebelling against me. I blame United business class "food."
I have Citi Premier, but yes, Prestige benefits are probably not going to last very long at the what they are offering. Just too good.
I have "a want" to post about changing up what I put my spend on though.
Posted on 1/8/16 at 2:39 pm to Teddy Ruxpin
So let's chat about that.
Right now, I put spend on:
Chase Sapphire (not preferred) - Dining
Chase Freedom - 5x Cats only
Chase Ink/Bold - Cable/Internet, sometimes gas, but try to buy Shell Giftcards at Office stores
Everything else I put on Amex SPG and Citi Doublecash if not going for a spend bonus.
SO, I'm thinking about dropping use of SPG altogether due to the merger, etc. I will only use Citi DoubleCash with Serve and Visa Buxx (despite that negative change).
I guess I'm wondering if I should just do all my 1x spending on Chase cards, perhaps add in Citi Premier to use on American so I don't waste UR on Southwest, or go for an Amex Mr card like EveryDay, though I still don't find the MR partners that great.
Really hard not to keep racking up UR. I just find them so much easier to actually use.

Kind of but not really

It's suspect at best. You fly the 747 or the 777?
It's a pretty decent hard product. The soft product has been sub par on all of my flights though.
