Tip: If 2 people or more are looking for transportation anywhere, a metered cab is cheaper than the BTS or metro. DON'T NEGOTIATE CABS! Always run the meter. Some will refuse to run the meter and want to charge literally 5x the cost simply because you are farang. To those, I bid a merry F*ck you and find the next cab available.

Edit: Coming from the airport they will try to say there are all these other fees. They are required by law to give you a receipt and if they rip you off you can file a complaint and they may lose their license. I would talk to your hotel before arriving about what the cab will cost so you don't get ripped.

Also, it is beyond hot. High has been around 97 with more humidity than BR.

This is the "cooler dry season"...can't imagine what the hot season is like.

Ha wow. I guess we better be ready for that heat. Our first day in India was absurd so I have a good idea.

Thanks for the reminder on the cabs as I've read that a lot. I have our hotel picking us up on arrival as I don't want to deal with that coming off the 28 hour flights.

Yep, good tip for sure. Unless you find a good driver who'll give you a flat rate, always go meter in any Asian country. BUT, watch the meter every once in a while. Saw a meter look like the Back to the Future clock when I was in Beijing

I heard back from Hyatt, they matched IHG platinum to their platinum only, oh well. Not bad since I don't have the credit card yet

I'm still waiting to hear back on mine. I have Marriott platinum and emailed them over the weekend.

AAdvantage® Aviator™ Red MasterCard®!

What's the difference between this card and the AA Citi Card? I was about to book a flight and the Citi offer popped up...40k miles and up to $100 statement credit. Which one is better to get if I were to apply for one?

You can't get the Red Aviator card. The card is the former Barclay's US Airways card. When US and American merged, Barclay's lost the rights to issue new cards but could retain their portfolio.

Only Citi can issue American CCs to new customers

I read this thread often. You guys are on top of this thing.

Damn that is solid...I have never stayed at a Hyatt property (all Marriott/IHG with some Hilton). Was hoping it was something with Marriott since you mentioned their platinum. I've been gold for the past 2 years with them

If I was starting right now I'd start with the Chase Sapphire Preferred which is at 50,000 points right now.

Chase UR program is probably one of the easiest for people to use so once you figure out how to transfer points to airlines to get great value you can start exploring other programs and airlines.

I've stayed at the one in Nola but that's it. Hyatt seems to have some great points redemptions though and they do offer suite upgrades so if my status match goes through I'll probably start checking them out.

Just a reminder that the American express airline fee is a calender year credit. I just signed up for the premier gold (back up to 50,000), and bought my $100 gift card. Credit has already hit the account. I plan on buying another $100 in January and cancelling next year. That would give my wife and myself $400 airline gift cards and 100,000 points for $2,000 spend and no yearly fee. Not bad.

Nice. You got that because of your Ambassador IHG status? Is Ambassador worth having? If I eventually am able to book the over the water bungalows I'm figuring on getting Ambassador for the stays in Tahiti or the other island as you can get the free night and upgrades.

BTW, just cut up my SPG today

They wouldn't give me anything to stay so I said cancel it. Way too many fees sitting in a drawer right now so I will narrow it down to probably only paying 3 this year (IHG $49, Aviator or Citi will work on retention but cancel one either way, Southwest and Alaska since I pre-paid).

View from men's urinal may be the best in the city. And I'm not joking about the urinal part.

I can vouch for that. It's pretty incredible albeit expensive by Thai standards.

Food was pretty good there as well. I was told that the 2 tops by the edge of glass usually are booked up in case you wanted to get a table there.

I believe so as I've read that Plats are usually just matched with platinum.

At IC in Tahiti it got me upgraded from a regular hotel room to an over water bungalow - Price difference of $300.

At IC Bora Bora they are all overwater bungalows, so it really doesn't matter. They will only upgrade you to a better view if there is availability. I was not upgraded, nor did I care. I picked the bungalow considered to be the most out of view so I could fully utilize the deck...

At IC Moorea I was upgraded to a beach bungalow - Price difference of $200.

In IC in Chicago it got me upgraded to a penthouse suite - $450 difference.

At IC in NOLA it just got me a club room.

I've been recognized as it at the other non IC properties and given better rooms, but I don't if the platinum status would have done that as well.

If you have a paid stay coming up somewhere for 2 nights on a weekend it pays for itself just from the BOGO. I've read that it's best to sign up at the hotel the first BOGO you want to use. I signed up on the webz so can't vouch for that, but I've gotten maximum upgrades almost everywhere.

I won't be renewing mine for $150 this year. I will be focusing my stays at Hyatt almost exclusively, but I still don't think I'll actually be able to hit the minimum stays for Diamond to re-qualify next year.

They wouldn't give me anything to stay so I said cancel it

That sucks. I think mine hits in December. Hoping for 10k. I need it for a redemption real bad.
