Looking at buying a lot about an hour outside of BR. Wanting a place to escape to with clean air and a nice view.

Ballpark cost of constructing a 1,000 or SF camp? Doesn’t have to be the Taj Mahal. Not wanting to go as low as modular home quality either.

TIA.

Costs will vary wildly depending on the site. City water already to your lot? Power to a nearby pole? Flood zone? Sewer requirements? What kind of foundation?

Don’t knock modular—some are nice and look nothing like the “trailer homes” of the past.

Look into metal building homes as an option as well. I have seen some really nice ones. Takes half the time to construct, great weather and wind resistance too.

Buy a modular now for a camp. It is going to be as good as a regular home. Ours is gonna be ~1800 sq ft. But they have them basically any size, similar to mobile homes but much better build. They will customize it however you want.

Gulf Coast Modular homes in New Iberia. They sell Franklin Modular homes, basically you find a floor plan you like and can customize it however you want.

All good points.

Lots I’ve seen have water and electricity ran to the lots already. Would have to get my own sewer set up.

The more I look at pre-fab homes, especially cabins, I’m really surprised how far they’ve come. I just want to make certain it’s well insulated.

Would probably hire someone. I’m not at all a builder.

Didn’t know exactly where to start this thread.

Yes. Prefab is a great option for certain situations. Wouldn’t hesitate to go that route at all

How much are you looking to spend after you have purchased the land....

I'm doing this now, but in West Virginia.

Modular Cabin - $20k-$50k (depending on what you want and you can go WAY higher)

Water Well drilling - $5000

Power Hook Up - $5000

Clearing and leveling land - $10,000

There will be other expenses such as hooking up our plumbing to the well and septic as well.

The land varies wildly. We bought an acre for $3500, but at the time there was not power to the area. It was basically wilderness land.

Summersville

My wife is from Charleston. Her family has a camp/lake house there, so we bought some adjoining land.

Was hoping to pull it off for $50-$70K , not including land.

This should be very doable.
