I laughed. It kind of reminds me of when the wife talked me into putting in a swimming pool, but on steroids.

Yes, Depending on the location, a raised (10-12 feet) can be done for $350/sq ft. I think it can actually be done for less.

What about in Slidell? No way

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I've always wondered how those homes elevated on cinder blocks stand up to storm surge.

The earlier post wasn't meant to ascribe a lowest price. Just the price of beach/waterfront construction in an area where I have first-hand knowledge.
Coastal construction costs skyrocketed over the past year here.
You obviously have more direct insight into your area. I am surprised a new home raised just 10-12 feet would comply with code on the Gulf Coast though.

It is true though,
and even in the same house the difference in maintenance on sides facing the ocean is surprising.

Depends on the base ground height. I’m talking 12’ on ground level that is 7’ high so a total of 19’ and that is what I was dealing with in the area around weeks bay.
The cost to build a house was $350/foot priced at Max possible cost , not cost plus.

Not on a beach, but on a river, I finished construction in December of 2020 in south LA.
Concrete blocks filled with concrete, built up 12'. 3000 total square feet, cost was about 470k, including the builder's fee, but not including the land.
I'd be glad to share any details with you. FWIW, we kinda modeled it as a beach style house.
