Collectibles/Investments?

What type of things are you into with your “play” money? Things you spend excess funds on that are hobby-ish, collectible, and stuff you may not lose your arse on long term? e.g. re-sellable or inheritance for kids
Watches? Baseball Cards? Luxury Goods? Books?
Just curious as I look for a new hobby.

I’ve been collecting diecast models for a few decades. Mainly F1, Le Mans and IndyCar, but a few NASCAR, NHRA and street machines. Along with those, I’ve collected quite a few race team shirts, autographs and other memorabilia. I’ve always loved cars and racing, so I saw this as a way to stay connected. The problem now is I have so many items that I’ve forgotten what all I have.
A friend sent me some software to catalog my collection years ago, but I just never found the time to do the work. Maybe next year, after I’ve retired.
Common question folks ask is, would I consider selling some of the items? The more common stuff, sure. The Ayrton Senna related items and more personalized things? Probably not.
BTW, thank you for posting this. I understand that people have concerns, but having 20 threads talking about the same subject (SVB related issues) is overkill. So I really appreciate this thread.

The Ayrton Senna
I’m an F1 fan, but never really gotten into the collectibles. But he’ll, I’d take something Senna in a heartbeat

The McLaren era still seems to draw the most attention. Having some 1/18 scale cars, with proper Marlboro decals, is most desirable. But one of my favorites is the black JPS Lotus 97T that he took to victory lane for the first time.

Old books, maps, and money have always interested me and generally do something between holding their value and making a small return.
I feel like maximizing returns by picking items that MAY have a major uptick in price later due to nostalgia and renewed interest (a la 1st edition Charizard cards) is a crapshoot.

Guitars, amps and a well maintained ski boat (only half joking, they hold value very well)

I like to buy older sports cards with limited supply. One of my most recent purchases is a 1996 Finest Intimidator Refractor w/coating Griffey Jr, PSA 9. There are only 50 of them or so in that condition

Vintage watches.
Always wanted a piece for my birth year. Any advice on how to get some research for the right one?

I really enjoy collecting really old antique/vintage fishing related items (lures, floats, rods, reels, tackle boxes, bait boxes, minnow buckets, nets, buoys, ice fishing rigs, and fishing magazines). I like to buy antique display cases or I build my own out of old windows to display old lures, reels, etc. I also buy old crates, chicken coops, military ammo and bomb boxes, driftwood and other vintage anything wood or metal to display my fishing stuff on. In summary, my hobby and collectibles are kind of like building a fishing museum.

My brother bought several Lego sets in the early 2010s in the $15 range. Today, he has them in ziplock bags with direct in the original boxes. Now those same sets are $50+ on Amazon.
