Not necessarily asking if you are only looking to do sales, but in general as an employer...how much do you value inside sales/cold calling for potential employees? I am currently in a position like this and absolutely hate it. Thoughts? Anyone else on the board have a previous job like this?

I have to make around 150 calls a day. Just FYI

You have no idea...try selling stuff to people who don't want to be sold.

i would hate it if I was on the receiving end of all these calls. It is draining to make all these calls everyday.

I go home wanting to

I don't do cold calls, but just curious what would y'all like to hear that would be less annoying?

Other than just don't call.

This is all I can think of. I'd even be open to a simple email telling me what you pander. I can be pandered when I have time that way.

In my line of work, I receive calls regarding printers/plotters. If we are looking to get something new, I will call you. I do not need to be reminded every couple of weeks that you are around and looking to move some Canon's.

In saying that though, I understand/sympathize with the OP. I would absolutely hate to have that job.

Does the cold calling tactic actually work? Has to be better ways in todays world right?

I did sales for a year out of college. It was international shipping, so it wasn't like I was selling phones.

I did very well and was on pace to be pulling in 6 figures plus this year, but cold calling and keeping up with 100+ clients became exhausting. Suffice to say I'm now in law school

Good luck.

It is such a grind doing the same thing all day everyday, and on top of that...people hate you for calling them. The absolute worst kind of sales. Without a doubt.

I 100% understand why someone says no and says they're not interested. What I couldn't stand was when someone would treat you like a second class citizen.

Salesmen are a dying breed due to technology. If they need something, they can contact someone within minutes. I wanted to switch gears within the company and work more towards e-sales, but the company I was with didn't really see the need.

Not unusual for best inside sales folks to move up to outside sales, maybe in charge of key account or two and that can get you noticed. Only you know if the company is a dead end. The skills are definitely transferable. Spice it up for the resume.

I tell ya what,, I started my sales carreer in the ins business and cold calling for appointments was name of the game.

The people who were successful perfected cold calling.
I was one of the best over time.

It's not forbeverybody and most people never get it.
Its worth something.
Jmho.
