I'm getting really tired of the touting of very small ($5-10/mo) benefits to varying subscription services that don't rollover as a justification for increased annual fees.

I just bailed on Amex Gold after 7 years because of this bull shite.

$10 to uber
$10 to grub hub
$7 to Dunkin
$50 2 times a year at a resy restaurant.

None rollover.

I'm over here looking for 1 lunch per month, wondering what restaurants are resy restaurants, and forcing myself to go out of my way for a shitty Dunkin coffee and donut for my kids once a month.

Fed up to no end. They said they would waive the fee for a year and give me $250 credit if I commit for 2 or more years. I still bailed.

Credit card rewards are becoming comical.

You can go to a Chase Freedom Visa with UR. No fee and its the only way to get that card and your points are safe. That allows you to get a new SUB for the CSP, which is likely what I'm going to do if these rumors are true. I'm so tired of the coupon book nonsense as i already have the AMEX Plat personal and Biz. I was really hoping they'd leave the CSR alone and I'd keep carrying it for many more years. Oh well. Cap 1 VX nerfed the lounge visits like AMEX, but even went a step further and now doesn't allow a guest a PP lounges. I wouldn't be shocked if Chase does similar crap here. I wish I would've downgraded and gotten the 100k CSP offer a few weeks ago. I was seriously thinking about it. Hopefully another good offer comes soon.

Authorized users from $75 to $195. And, they are getting rid of the 50% bonus of redeeming points on the Chase travel portal.

I’m done. I expect a lot of folks will be as well.

I will as well but they are making it way too marginal of a benefit.

$1000 in fees off the top.

-$300 travel
-$500 southwest benefit

Leaves me searching for $200 is definite benefits. A lot of what they added isn’t helpful for me. I don’t need a Peloton or Apple TV discount. Unlikely to use the Edit discount. I haven’t even begun to run the value difference on the points redemption changes.

Where to go is the next question…

I also fly into Logan very regularly on JetBlue. The Chase lounge there is fantastic.

It’s a good question.. I currently carry CSR and Amex Plat and they’re about to refresh and rumor is they could go to $995 and the value prop there was already shaky at best.. VentureX just removed lounge guests but it might be worth a look.

Yeah, I think I am too on the personal side. We'd be cutting it close on overcoming the membership + authorized user fee, won't spend enough to get additonal credits (Southwest), and losing the 50% redemption bonus in the travel portal sucks too. That's how we redeem most of the time. Actually just redeemed all of my points last week, so I guess I got lucky there.

On the other hand, the Sapphire Reserve Business card looks right up our alley. Already have the Ink Business Premier and spend about $400k/yr on it. Looks like no authorized users fee, saw maybe a 200k points sign up bonus, and we will easily hit minimum spend for a lot of the credits. Will have to see the whole picture once all details are released on it.

I have never utilized credit cards for points or otherwise...any rewards were just happenstance. Lately Ive been using my Chase card for travel booking, especially airfare, and see a benefit. My question is, that is a long list of perks, as stupid as it sounds, how do I apply them? Do I just use my card for a category? Like doordash, I use it and it covers 25 bucks a month of the charges?

I have 2 CSR's now, and I think I should drop them both. This is just too much, and I don't get enough benefit.

I assume if I move my wife's points to me, then drop the CSR and keep the Freedom Unlimited, I keep all my points, I just lose some of the redemption value? I have about 200K. I don't suppose I could book a trip for the future with them and cancel the card and keep the trip with the points spent?

Sometimes you need to activate the benefit on the Ultimate Rewards site then your cc will be linked and you get the perks.

It depends, but mostly yes. Things like DoorDash visibly trigger the benefit when you link that card to the account (and will visibly remove the benefit if you try to pay with a different card). You get the discount/credit on the front end. Things like the Global Entry credit, you just pay for it with your card and then get a statement credit on the back end.

I believe as long as the trip is booked, it's booked. But I would definitely try to get a more definitive answer before doing so.

And also be aware that if you "change" (date, class, airport change, etc.) a booking made through the UR portal, it will cancel your original itinerary, refund the points, and then charge you the points for a new itinerary. I don't know if that's still the case, but I watched it happen when changing an itinerary a few years ago.

If you don't have an account to deposit the temporary points refund to, you're likely screwed.

Good googly moogly. Might be time to hang it up. That's insane.

Just discussed with my financial advisor (ChatGPT). Sounds like it still would be worth holding onto with an AU if you spend over $75k.

ETA:

I am conflicted.

Man even the hotel credit requires a 2 night minimum. No shot you'll be able to get 2 nights for less than $250 (since the $500 is split Jan-Jun and July-Dec) at any of their hotels. Making ya spend more.

I ran since assumptions through AI and I’m break even. We have like 700K UR pts to use before the 50% bonus is gone

Yes, he should definitely be careful if he's going to cancel the card completely after booking travel through the portal. If you still have a UR earning card then it should be okay other than the extra bonus the CSR currently gets (.5 extra). The portal definitely makes it a little trickier for changes and cancels though.

From my understanding I think we get until October 25th, 2027 to use them at 1.5c if you earned them before Oct 26, 2025.

Some more good news on a bad news deal:

quote:

If you’re an existing cardmember or applied for the card prior to June 23, 2025, your benefits and annual fee will remain unchanged through October 25, 2025.

As of October 26, 2025, you will get an additional $1,500+ in annual value with your Sapphire Reserve card. After this date, on your anniversary, your annual fee will adjust to $795 and each authorized user fee to $195

Since I have an AF coming up in August I get to use all those extra benefits starting in late October through next August at my current $550 annual fee. That means I'm definitely keeping the card until next August and then will likely change to a CSP after unless I somehow use all of those coupons without much fanfare.

If you can easily spend the $75,000 and you use Southwest regularly I think it's a pretty nice perk. Not only are you getting that $500 credit but you're getting A-list status with them plus you get Diamond Elite with IHG. I have Platinum Elite and Diamond gets more benefits like free breakfast. Again, this is assuming you use IHG hotels or at least can sometimes.

The question comes down to what are you spending that $75,000 on? Is the CSR the best card to put that kind of spend on will be how you figure it out.

Regarding the rest of the benefits, there still will be a points boost on some properties so even though we lose the 1.5 we're getting something on some properties still up to 2x benefit. The dinner credits will likely be easy enough to use. The rest is a YMMV situation. I don't like losing the 3x on other travel.
