What does the MT think of this?

I guess a lot of Cap One cards will move to the Discover network?

Discover Card.. yet another great innovation by Sears. Although some say that it took away from Sears focus on goods and led to larger problems and losses.

Have no experience with cap one… and a good bit with discover … their customer service has always been fantastic

Seen online where people complain about cap one and their customer service and I hope discover doesn’t start to suck after this

Whenever I call Discover, which isn't that often, I've never had any trouble understanding the person on the other end of the line.

There are FEW companies / customer call centers that I can say that about.

Staying away from this. Both companies are starting to feel the pressure of people missing payments with inflation and people just trying to make essential bills. I think it will only get worse over the next year or two. Long term i believe this will be a good deal but i believe you will be able to get this a lot cheaper in the next year.

I used to work for Discover Card after Sears sold it to Morgan Stanley- it ran a lot smoother when it was with Sears.

From what the initial writes up mention, not too much will be converted to Discovers’s network due to higher foreign transaction fees at Discover.

I heard a rumor a few years ago from someone that Capital One was looking to eventually exit the retail banking sector and return to focusing on credit cards. This person was at a competing bank so I took it with a grain of salt, but the announcement of this deal makes me wonder if that's what's starting to happen. I know they've been closing branches in Baton Rouge and consolidating some of their local admin staff the past couple years. I imagine some of that is attributable to increasingly more digital banking although it seems like Chase has been building new branches at the same time.

Cap One has been moving away from traditional branches for a while.

They are the largest bank by deposits in the NOLA area.

If they sell off their retail banking it could be to a company not currently in the area

I had fraud on my Cap1 card. Called them and it was someone who barely speaks English from across the world, I thought I was setting up myself for more fraud.

Called them a few weeks ago about something very minor, got an American who was very helpful. Guess its hit or miss.

They take great pride in all the call centers being in the states, they used to have an ad campaign centered around it- back before everyone was afraid of being canceled.

Agreed completely, which is a bit comical for a company often viewed as focusing on sub-prime clients.

A lot of banks are doing what they can to either exit or significantly limit their retail operations.

A good friend is at the C-level at a bank and a lot of their business currently is picking up retail opportunities where banks like PNC and Wells Fargo are either exiting or limiting retail operations.

I don't have a Cap One CC. However, I do have checking and savings there. Very pleased.

I've never had a card from either.

I've had 1 amex, 1 mastercard, and like a million Visa.

Chase has been closing branches too.

In Terrebonne Parish back in the days of Priemer Bank, they hand many more locations. They built or their predecessor Terrebonne Bank and Trust built Houma’s only 7 floor commercial office building. (Now it is owned by the Parish Government) They even had locations as far south as Chauvin.

Now, there are 2 branches in Terrebonne Parish, after closing the one by the mall. It could be 3 if you count the Branch that is in “Thibodaux” but still within the parish line of Terrebonne by Walmart and Percy Brown Road.

Now Chase has been expanding their city and state reach. They have been expanding into states where they did not have branches. When I was in Vegas, I realized that there were no Capital Ones there but there were a few Chase branches which I did use to get some cash instead of paying 10 dollars per ATM transaction at a Casino.

Discover has fantastic customer service bc their customer service is based out of Utah. They hire good people and pay them well, instead of using 2nd and 3rd world call centers at near slave wage labor
