Besides paying all bills and notes on time. What are some other things to help my score out?

Make sure you don't pay things off too quickly. Remember it's a credit history. Are you aware that you have a low score?

Short term loans from your bank. Deposit the money in your account and pay on time. It will only cost you a couple of bucks.

don't close a long term credit history.
ex. if you have a credit card that has been open for 5+ years, and paid off- no balance, charge something and pay it off every now and then

Exactly. It's a lot easier to hurt yourself quickly than to help yourself quickly.

I never financed anything, just paid everything on time and used my credit card that I repaid monthly. When I went to buy my house four years ago, I was a little worried because everyone said the same thing then "leave a CC balance or take out a small loan to improve rating". Turns out my rating was around 760 and I was approved for way more money than I wanted.
I had a CC once with no interest for a year that I left a balance on for the year, then paid it off. I have since seen my credit report from two different sources and those financed months show up exactly the same as the months with no balance carrying over.
The point of all this being, I belive "keep a balance" does nothing or at best does very little.

But thing is it's not just about score anymore. Lenders are actually underwriting now and looking at history and score. I have seen 700+ I would not lend $100 until payday and 500s you scratch your head at.

being up to credit card limit will hurt your score.
