I have been a USAA member for a very long time, but the rate increases since I added my daughter have gotten pretty crazy. Just did some quick shopping and got the following quotes for the same coverage:

USAA $3,272 / 6 months

Progressive $1,730 / 6 months

Geico $1,626 / 6 months

Any recommendations for auto coverage or warnings for companies to avoid?

Geico has been the best cost without being cut-rate. I've had them so long though so my premiums have probably gotten high enough to switch as well.

I really like progressive, I'd probably pay the extra $100 to keep them over Geico, but I will admit I have never had Geico. I have had State Farm and AllState and I have had better experiences with Progressive over both.

Costco has always had the best rates when I shop around.

I just sold a boat and called to cancel boat insurance with them. I was expecting the 20 minute on hold since I was trying to cancel a policy, but was done in less than five minutes.

I have found USAA's insurance department to be pretty candid, if you have those quotes in hand, call a USAA agent, they might be able to tell you straight up that it's a better deal, or explain to you if you are getting hustled. I find it hard to believe a non-profit insurance company that sends all profits at the end of the year back to it's members is getting wiped around on the floor by these other for-profit companies with those kinds of premium differences. Those are huge differences.

Usaa is brutal with their rates for having a young driver, they’re sky high and not even close to the others. Believe me, I want to use them but I’m not paying 1k+ more to have them

We just switched to usaa from geico because they were cheaper with bundle and we had to find new home owners with everyone pulling out. Never had a problem with geico though, they were good.

Geico and Progressive are both solid. They have aggressive teaser rates and you can expect it to rise with each renewal period. If possible, sign a one year agreement instead of 6 months to lock in your rate / skip a renewal cycle.

I just switched from State Farm to Progressive because it was 100$ cheaper per month. I really didnt want to switch because ive never had a problem with State Farm and my agent was very kind but not worth it for an extra $1,200/year because my truck got "re-rated."

On auto insurance State Farm has been great.
I get people complaints on the home but over my years they have been nothing but easy to work with.

This is what happened to me. I had Geico for years and one day I called Progressive just to check to see how competitive Geico was. Progressive gave me a much cheaper rate and I end up switching.

I'll probably end up switching back to Geico in a few years from now b/c the same thing will likely happen with Progressive.
