Based on this, I recommend you stick to low cost whole market index funds. VTI, for example.

My allocation is…

25% VIGIX (growth)
25% VIVIX (value)
25% VMGMX (mid-cap growth)
25% VSCIX (small-cap index)

I’m in the camp that international funds are not what they use to be 20+ years ago. The higher fees deterred me.

I’m 37 by the way. Plan on leaving it like this until at least 50 for the time being.

No International? I'm in a similar breakdown as you, also similar age, but I think it's wise to have some exposure to International indexes. Mine is currently 10% to large cap international and 5% to emerging markets.

I agree it is probably wise to be exposed to international/emerging markets, but those funds have followed domestic stocks almost identically since the turn of the century, while slightly underperforming domestic in that timeframe. I just don’t see enough diversification to warrant spending the extra in fees for international/emerging.

100% VFIAX is the best imo for those more than 10 years to retirement. With that being said, wait another year and by the dip on the market. This is a bear market rally.

Certainly not trying to convince you on how to invest, but past performance should not be used as a reliable predictor of future success.

I think 15% total allocation to international/emerging is probably the best option for our age group. And while I was typing my previous post, I was thinking to myself that same financial statement that is driven to every investors' brain. I dunno, I may reduce small and mid-cap by 7.5% each and allocate 15% into international/emerging soon. I need to read over the overview of these stocks.

This is the only response that’s helpful lol

We’d need to see what options you have available in your plan before advising. Knowing your age might help as well.

Also, there’s nothing wrong with a target date fund. It’s probably the best choice next to a VTSAX equivalent. It’s the best and most balanced choice for someone who doesn’t plan on keeping up with their investments or doesn’t understand about investing.

So based off no other information but the original post, I’d suggest doing the target date fund

Understand that, but some are very low. Vanguard’s is just .12% which is well below regular mutual funds but higher than index funds. I guess somebody has to monitor and rebalance them as they age.
