CNBC World makes for some gloomy television right now and they are saying a depression here is not really that far fetched. They go on to say how Healthcare systems in most of the Asian countries are being overwhelmed. Most countries are bailing out their most vulnerable industries. Australia apparently is already in a recession. They are saying currently markets have only priced in the shirt term impact from virus, but the markets will reprice again when longer term economic impacts become more clear in the coming quarters. shite sounds scary.

Anything to harm GEOTUS. Don’t trust the fake news.

I don't think CNBC World really cares about Trump one way or the other that much. Most of their focus is on Financial Markets and business news from around the world and they just seem to have a gloomy outlook overall.

If the media says it then it’s 100% fake.

Regardless of what anyone says in this thread no one knows. It’s all a guess at this point. No one knows how long this will last. If it blows over in a month things will change on how certain businesses operate but a recession will not happen. If we are on lockdown for multiple months then yes businesses will close.

Too early to tell. Place your bets

The simple fact of businesses shutting down for a few weeks will cripple local economies

I will be surprised if we end up in a recession.

I agree. Q2 will be bad and Q3 will be the kicker if we officially had a recession or not. Q4 will rebound strongly and the markets will have recovered or recovering by Q3

Depends on personal situation....

* If you gotta job and check will not buy as much
you are in the Recession.

* If you lost the job, you are in a depression.

This is a bad take. Here is a comparison of Obama v Trump S&P returns over the course of their presidency courtesy of Forbes

Reality is that whoever wins will have minimal impact on Q4. If the corona response doesn't get better it will have zero impact

So much more to the economy than the S&P plus statistics can be easily manipulated.
