Just curious, not being an arse. Does her entire immeidate family lease?
No, it is the first lease.
The only bright side I see with leasing is that cars today are trash after 50k or 60k miles. She had a car (Ford) that started giving her some issues that was just out of the extended warranty that she purchased 4.5 years ago.
My thought is that with all the manufacturer issues with cars less than 60 thousand miles and just a few years old, she made the right decision. The car she had before was just under 90k and had some major issues around 30k miles which was covered under warranty. So if this car shits the bed, it will hopefully be after the vehcile is turned in and she is working on her next vehicle or decides to buy this one at the option to buy price.
On the flip side, financing in today's interest environment, her payments would have been well over 600-700 dollars a month with 6-7 years of payments, plus if there are any major long term breakdowns she would be responsible for any mechanical issues after the warranty periods.
The only good thing is that this is a Honda. Most Honda's are pretty reliable. I am about to cross 250k miles in my 2012 Oddessy van I purchased right as COVID was heating up. It had only 120k miles. It burns a little oil and the alternator and spark plugs needed to be replaced. Those are some pretty easy fixes.

We just got a 22 MDX tech package with 36k miles on it, Acura Precision certified with 100k mile warranty on those.
Reason why? The rates on those were 1.49% over the new rates being much higher for Pilot/MDX (Pilot did just move to 2.9% but was 3.9% prev I think). This was in excellent shape, long warranty left and hard to ignore 1.49% in today's market. Doesn't hurt it cost less than a new Pilot EX-L by a good amount too.
Will say if 3rd row is important/often used the Pilot has more room for adults back there. Saying this as at 6'2 with that all in my torso, I don't really fit in the back of our 3rd row in the 22 MDX without serious contorting. I was actually relatively comfortable in my parent's 24 Pilot 3rd row though. 3rd row simply wasn't an important thing to us with just 1 kiddo. It's used only in a pinch/short rides. We simply liked the upscale feel of the MDX over the Pilot, but the Pilot isn't a slouch by any shape of the imagination, more function over form inside.

I bought a 2024 Odyssey last week. Looked at both the Odyssey and Pilot but with very young kids, we made the sensible choice.
We had an Odyssey when our kids were younger. That thing was spacious and great on long trips.

What are you talking about, cars are not trash at 50-60k miles. You had a ford that’s why it’s trash. A Mazda, Honda, Toyota, etc are still basically new at that miles

Currently daily a 2015 Ford Edge with 197k miles that I wouldn't hesitate to drive cross country today. Outside of some AC work round 175k miles, nothing but oil, tires and brake pads/rotors.
ETA: As for OP, not sure you'll get discounts off sticker on a new Pilot since they just did the redesign. We bought a 2024 Odyssey Sport in September and got it at sticker with about $800 of accessories thrown in Several dealers wanted market adjustments, but I don't play that game. I highly recommend teh Odyssey over the Pilot if you have young kids btw,

You can get discounts. I bought mine for 8% below MSRP.

Yeah you should be able to get pretty good discounts on Pilots, our local dealer has 40 of them on lot with 3 leftover 2024's still.
Truecar showing $2k-$3k discounts on average people got vs. MSRP
My parents ought their 2024 last year through costco buying program and got $3.5k-$4k range off of it.

Niece just leased a 2025 for her growing family earlier this month. It was pretty loaded with the plastic floor mats, 3rd row, and infotainment center.
15k miles a year, payments are under 500 a month. Had to put down about 6800 lucky a trade ate up some of that deposit.
Financing would have put her at too high of a payment and would have needed the extended warranties and other at least now she is set for the next three years, and they take the thing back with 44,999 miles on it. She starts again with a 2028 or decides to buy it.
Not knocking this decision, but my wife (married over a month ago) leases a Mazda CX-5. Her lease is up in August and what we have found is that leasing is such a poor decision. She put 4k down and paid 480 a month. She will have invested 18k in the car by lease end. The dealership offered to sell it to us for 21,900. The value of the care when she leased it was 31k. You can do the math on how much over that value she would end up paying.
I think leasing is good in certain situations but you invest all this money and get nowhere when you really look at it.

The way I look at it is that the car companies wouldn't offer leases if it did not make them tons of money. They aren't charities.
I just paid off my last car note last week. Hopefully ever. Goal at this point is to save cash for next one.

Looking to possibly pull the trigger on one this week. Just wonder if anyone has had much knocked off sticker price
You should go to Piloteers.org as they have a new model year price paid etc by members of the site which starts every year a new model is available. Assuming you are seeking 2024/2025, lots of good info on that site and issues owners may be having. I'm thinking of getting a new vehicle but don't know if I want to get rid of a Pilot AWD with 65k miles on it that has not given me any trouble and all the issues multiple automotive brands seem to be having on new models.

Let us know how the AC works in the summer coolingnoff.
I bought a 2020 highlander instead of the odessey because I was afraid the moving of the Rear AC from roof vents to pillar vents as well as moving the rear evaporator to the front and having to pull the rear air through vents in the floor all the way up front would make the rear hard to cool off.
Highlander has been great but we do miss a minivan. I wanted another sienna but I didn't want a hybrid and that's all they are.

I am still driving a 2008 Pilot. Getting close to 225,000 miles on it. Best vehicle I have ever owned. Owned an Accord before that. I am a believer in the brand.

I got a 24 Honda CRV Hybrid in November. I'm very impressed. It rides and handles well and is fun to drive. This is my first Honda. I'm coming from a 16 Lexus RX that I gave to my daughter. I would give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
I wouldn't hesitate to get a Honda.

Just made the purchase…. Got a 2025 EX-L… ended up getting a little over 3,500 off sticker, and 3.9% on the financing so overall pleased

Bought a 2017 model in 2019 ( lease car) good vehicle used on numerous long trips and day to day commute
Only issue is in eco mode it under or over shifts around 30-35 mph range
We have a 2017 that started doing the same thing between 30-45 mph. Did a bunch of research and it turned out to be a very easy fix. Simply flushing the transmission twice fixed the problem completely. Bought the OEM Honda transmission fluid from the dealer and changed it twice. Issue resolved completely! Did it about 15k miles ago and still no issues.

A car is a depreciating asset and ultimately disposable so you can't look at it like an investment.

I have a Honda Pilot with 235,000 miles on it.
Original engine.
Original transmission.
1 alternator replaced.
1 new set of O2 sensors.
The rest is just tires, brake pads, fluids, spark plugs, and batteries.
It has no check engine lights and runs great. Everything functions perfectly.
Just drove it to West Virginia and back to Alabama last week.
