Looking to make a little extra cash in the evening and on the weekends.

I work a full time job, 40 hours a week but wouldn’t mind some more cash. Just got engaged and would like to have some money stashed away when we make our down payment on a house.

What are some suggestions?

From what I understand shopify is booming in terms of connecting people with wholesalers and just all around 1 stop shop to launch an online business from home. I dont know the specifics but just as something ive invested in recently, its really booming.

My profession? Work for an engineering firm and I do drafting

AutoCAD is somewhat my specialty

I’m not looking to do something that I primarily do as my profession, just something to make cash on the side.

College graduate in the college of engineering

Microsoft office savvy

I really want to do this as well for extra side money HOWEVER the commissions you pay them plus saving your own self-employment taxes really makes it hard to make real money doing that. Not counting the wear & tear on your vehicle, gas, and clean up (from drunks) costs.

Says who? You already have a car, so that cost is irrelevant. You're gonna pay taxes on any income regardless of where you make it, so again irrelevant. I've averaged almost $30 an hour doing nights and weekends in NOLA. The only cost to consider is the wear and tear/fuel, but that again is dependent on how much you do it. There are fees that more than take care of if a drunk so much as gets glitter in your car, let alone actually messes it up But in over 500 rides in NOLA, it's never been an issue.

If you only have access to a gas guzzler, it may not be a great idea. But since I have access to a Prius, it's a no brainer. I'm not sure you could make find a more flexible part time gig that pays as well.

Can't wait to hear what the downvote is for. I thought this wasn't the OT

True, but you aren't a W2 employee doing this, though. That means you have a higher tax liability than you would if you were a W2 employee. Are you saving an appropriate amount of your earnings for taxes? If not, then you're going to get arse raped at tax time.

That information is found on their websites, I'm not pulling it from thin air.

I'm keeping 30%. But there is a lot of stuff to less that burden as long as you keep track of mileage and what not.

No one said you weren't. But acting like the taxes are some surprise is kind of disingenuous.

Do you like baseball?

You can make/work as often or as little as you want as an umpire. Depending where you live there are games 7 days a week.

When I found out my wife was pregnant I started, and did it for 5 years. Never got back into it after Katrina.

Uber/Lyft, UberEats, Waitr, or some other type of sharing economy, decentralized type stuff. But it all requires your vehicle to get mileage and wear/tear.

Mowing Grass/Weedeating/Edging/Blowing is an easy thing to get into and if you hustle in the evenings and on weekends you can make some decent dough (Example: My Mom has a 1/3 acre lot with a garden home on it. Not much yard at all. She gets it mowed/edged and weed-eated twice monthly for $80. Let's say you pick up 3 or 4 houses on her street or in one neighborhood. One afternoon you can make a couple hundo, and if you do that 3 or 4 times over, a few day's work can net you close to a G).

Have you ever thought about using your drafting skills for side gigs and hustles? I'm wondering if a small-time contractor, metalworker, patio company or pool company wouldn't mind being able to tout having a, "design professional," on staff for plans, permitting stuff, etc.

Ive done several little jobs like this before we moved south. Just recently dissolved an LLC for making specialty sausage. I would make it on my own time and sell it at work. Once we moved to Maurice, I shut it down. Not a demand for it here since you can find a damn specialty meat store on every damn corner Ive been looking for the same, I have a few ideas, just need the funds to jumpstart.

ETA: could you not use your draft skills for drawing house plans? The way the real estate is going up around here, it would def come in useful

Make coffee at a Books a Million for $9 per hour.

Grocery store for min. wage, plus discounts on purchases and huge discounts on "blemished" food.

Handyman work.

(people in my Sunday School class do these jobs for giggles and side money)

Electrical or mechanical?

I'm a draftsman as well. Didn't go to school for EE or anything, just worked in the shop building switchgear during my high school summers to make some money.

The reason I ask is I want to move into a designer role, but I really lack a lot of the EE knowledge and looking for a good place to learn. Starting with the basics.

On topic:

I'm in the same situation as you as I'd like to find a decent part time job somewhere. I really work 9 hours a day, hit the weights, then have my evenings free. I have my hands in a couple other things that aren't very demanding (couple days per month). Considered uber/lyft but I don't enjoy driving or really want random people in my car.

As tigerNO suggested, sports officiating

You can work a tremendous amount on your schedule

If you are in Louisiana go to the Lhsaa website and look at spring sports that you might have a chance to still get on. The registrations are early.

If you are forced to wait till fall you should do football, basketball and softball for the most available games and quickest games.

Can you play and teach a musical instrument?

You could make at least $50/hour teaching out of your own place or traveling to people's homes. $25/hour teaching at a music store.

Get an insurance license and contract with a local broker. You can make some good coin just selling term life and LTC to friends, family, and colleagues.
