Original take you have there.

We can't prove you wrong. Only Hess can do that.

Soooo, he is, in fact, a starter.

He was promised a starting role in return for spurning the draft. Lose/lose for both sides. Hess isn't an sec caliber Friday starter - especially not for the #1 team in the nation. And now he'll have wasted 2 years in a rotation where he could've perfect his craft in the bullpen - where he'll be in the bigs.

I’m really not sure why people take this as a knock on Hess. He was phenomenal his freshman year coming out of the bullpen, and he struggled mightily last season and looks to have picked up right where he left off last year. Do LSU fans want to see this man continue to fail or would you like to see him succeed?
Why is it a knock on Hess to say that he isn’t a starter and would be better coming out of the pen?
Mariano Rivera seemed to relish in that role, and had a hall of fame career. Why is that a bad role for Hess??

Not even close Ott was a one trick pony. He is capable of being dominant for 7 innings he did it last year numerous times.

He has the potential to be a college starter but he hasn’t played good enough as a starter yet. I imagine Mainieri will end up putting him back in the bullpen as a CP or MRP. We have a ton of other guys who can easily take his spot on the weekend rotation so I don’t think it will be very hard to move him out of the rotation and putting him back in the pen where he belongs. We have such a deep staff that we could have a 5 man rotation like what you see in the pros. I’d say when Eric Walker is 100% back on schedule and able to be a weekend starter in a few weeks is when we’ll see the change. Hess will be a stud closer at the next level.

He's an average starter (by our standards).

He is, however, an ELITE closer. He never should have left that role.

Do y'all remember last year? Exactly who would you have started last year?

He WAS an elite closer towards the end of his Freshman year. Now his struggles are generally in his first couple innings. That won't work for closer.

My main issue with Hess is his consistency. He was bad last night, but I could see him coming out and shutting down Bryant and Texas the next two weekends, only to come out and allow Cal to hit him all over the park.

You can go back to those games he started as a Freshman, he was very inconsistent. Games of 6 innings 0 runs, 1 walk, 7 strike outs, then the next week he goes 4 innings gives up 5 runs 6 walks and 3 strike outs. We are running up on 3 seasons of data saying he isn't a starter. Stop trying to force him to be something he isn't

Does this thread constitute “shitting” on a player?

Seems that term gets thrown around a lot by some posters when discussing football.
