You’re crazy if you think our defense had a great game

Moscona agrees today
We gave up over 600 total yards offense, 470 yards passing and 34 points!

Pelini still needs to go!

Turnovers are the only reason we stayed in it. I agree

The only statement you can make is that the red zone defense was pretty salty and they didn't have Pitts to throw to in the red zone who is a mismatch whoever they play.

Keep in mind LSU was without Stingley and Baskerville as well as the targeting on Flott

But our red zone defense was on point and we created turnovers.

We also scored a touchdown on defense so factor that in

I agree. Just happy they made some key stops. Especially in the red zone. But yeah, we gave up a shite ton of yards.

We never said our defense played a good game.

We all are just happy with effort.
We were outmanned going on the road and pulled it off.

Redzone defense was great. Other than that and causing turnovers, we are still giving up way too many chunk plays.

Defense looked 6 times better with Flott out of the game though.

Yeah defense as a whole still isn’t very good. However, we have individual players who made great plays that won us the game like the goal line stand and Ward and Ricks’ INTs.

At this point in this type of a season you just have to take the victory at a top 10 team on their own turf and enjoy it. Dont be overly critical on this one.

But yes, it needs to be addressed and changes will come for next season. We just need to hope the changes are positive ones.

They were opportunistic, I'll give them that. Still way too many big plays given up and they sucked in between the 20s.

The excuse makers are looking for anything to justify their opinion. Defense was garbage we just made some great individual plays for turnovers. The Toney TD we had 3 guarding 4 and they had us outflanked in formation all night long. Pelini was terrible as always.

This. The players stayed in the game by making big plays when it counted and not breaking when I’m sure they were pretty gassed. But this doesn’t give the staff a pass beyond getting some buy-in from the players on the field.

The emerging bright spot is the young guys on the D Line. There is a lot of talent there and the experience they are getting will pay off next season.

Commentators made this excellent point at half time. Said LSU couldn't last if florida just stopped making mistakes....thankfully for us they kept making them, but yea...d was still getting torched

The scheme is horrible. The defense has more talent than people think though.

The defense you criticize CAUSED each on of those TOs.

Pick 6 - scheme and great play by Ricks to jump the route.

Red zone pick - great coverage and heavy rush forced bad throw by Trask. Ward with insane effort to track ball, re-establish himself in bounds and catch ball cleanly.

Fumble - forced by heavy rush.

LSU's roster is depleted and has been since the spring. COVID and injuries have made it much worse.

I totally agree, that is a horrible stat line.

As strange as it seems though, this defense is improving and has been since Auburn. They still make stupid decisions, get caught out of position, and get caught flat footed making them easy to block on running plays.

The fact is though these things are being done less frequently than they were earlier in the year and they are now being done by players that were not expected to even play much less stay on the field for 3/4 of the time in the last two weeks against arguably the two best offenses in college football.

Pelini has done a shite job in a year that would've been damn near impossible to do a great job. It can be two things.

Im not saying he isnt deserving of being fired, I just do not think its as clear cut as it was a month ago.

Pointless to use the Florida game as the smoking gun used to fire Pelini. The rest of the season? Sure. At this point, with all the bodies we were missing, effort and organization were all I cared about. That was a big win and it took balls and heart. I certainly am not going to ignore the rest of the season because we upset Florida but that game was not about statistics.
