Well I cannot speak for everyone but not all these first impressions are bullshite. I also did my research, but I didn’t realize that was part of this question. While I did dramatize a little my first impression did happen. That old Okie bastard is actually a good friend and co worker that I still keep in touch with. For 2 seasons I rode his arse about them letting Miles get away, the last two seasons he has pretty much paid me back. While I have not completely fallen off the band wagon I will admit my grasp is starting to slip.
You’re blind if you cannot see that bullshite charm Miles possesses, you can't deny hiss dedication to the recruiting. I think Miles dropped the ball when he lost sight of the fact that great coaches surround themselves with great assistants, not just great recruiters. The Ryan Perrilloux fiasco did not help but that cannot be an excuse when you have LSU's talent, you adapt are you lose your opportunity. I think with the correct offensive staff Miles could bounce right back and make most of the Rant eat their words. I think Chavis was a great hire and I feel the defensive breakdowns this season was a reflection of our pitiful offense. Our defense played way too many snaps this season and that’s the bottom line. In my opinion we are an OC and QB & O Line coach away from being in Alabama's shoes. As conservative as Jimbo was he really did a fine job of developing LSU's quarterbacks and building systems they could be successful in. You cannot expect a National Title or win 11 games every season but finishing near the bottom of D-1 in total offense is just unacceptable. I have faith, but man is it a challenge.

who is Les Miles? I wasn't happy and esp after we lost to Tennessee that year i really didnt think we made the right call.
But he has won SEC and National Championship and he's the head coach of our team... HE HAS ALL OF MY SUPPORT!

He has changed. So have our opinions. I'm an lsu fan not a miles fan. I haven't missed a game at least on tv in 15 years. Not just during the good times. I've seen what shitty coach looks like and what a winner looks like. Miles ain't it
this...

quote:I was unsure. Oklahoma St. was making a little name for itself back then, so I hoped he would be a diamond in the rough. Had hoped for a much bigger name to come to LSU, but was ready to see what he had. First couple of years, it seemed like he was going to work out, but I had sinking feelings about his hires for assistant coaches (Malveto) that proved to be based on more than just bad vibes as the 08 season devolved. And then there was 09... I think Les Miles is a decent fellow, but is not ready for LSU level of excellence and has brought the team back to the DiNardo malaise days, as if Nick Saban had never been there at all. Somebody will have to help LSU relearn excellence, discipline, leadership, focus, and fundamentals one day. I don't think it will be under his watch.
...curious to read what many of you thought he was going to be...

since Saban left us at the alter, we weren't in a choosy situation.

yea saban left us with high hopes and wet panties

Who the hell is he? Never heard of him. Oh OKS?

Nobody really knew about Saban before he was hired and successful at LSU. If not for success at LSU he would've never commanded the salary and control he did in Miami or the mega deal Bama threw at him. People were complaining about Saban over Butch Davis, Dennis Erickson, etc.

This and why are the Okie State fans glad to get rid of him.
I am sure that your feeble memory doesn't recall all the anti-Saban shite that came down from MSU fans when he hired him. How many of them said that they were glad he was gone, how many said we would regret the hire.
And in your limited mentality, do you recall all the negatives said about Saban by LSU fans? How his record wasn't good enough for LSU, etc. I guess it is really easy for you people with mimited brain power to live in some fanstasy world.

I was puzzled, I believed at that time the LSU A.D. could have done a much better job. I've said it and I've read others here saying this; Stanely Bertman did his worse job as our LSU A.D. at that time.
I sure hope that J.A. as our current A.D. doesn't think that LSU basketball is going to carry LSU on it's financial back?
It is all about revenue baby; if you want to stay up there with the big boys, you have to spend your money wisely and act in a timely basis.

Yea...who is Nick Saban...isn't he that guy that DiNardo kicked the shite out of in S'port???
That would have been several folks' first impression of St. Nick.

And did you want Saban after DiNardo of all people, handed him his arse?
Of course you did. Right? You knew all along, right.

The only reason most of them were glad he left was because they got Gundy to replace him. Gundy is a hometown hero and the guy most Okie St.fans wanted in the first place.
When Les was here at Okie St. and beat Zero U. 2 of the 4 yrs. he was here, and brought a swagger and attitude of "We ain't second to nobody!" to the Cowboys that they hadn't had since Jimmy Johnson, he was a hero.
There were a lot of pissed off fans before Gundy was hired. After that, it became, "You can have him!"

The only thing I though of at first was OKS beat OK 2 times in the last few years he was at OKS. All the OK Exes hate Miles and they still do to this day.
I'll telly we are still better off than 98% of all the other Div. 1 teams in the country. Not to say we that we should not have done a better job on the field as well as the coaching job.

When I read that Jerry Jones recommended Les and endorsed this hire, my insides went cold as the arctic glaciers. Then at his first presser, I was like, "this guy is a football coach"? He seemed more like the CEO of Pampers.

I post this with the complete disclosure that I am a current supporter of Coach Miles.
At the time of his hiring, I was concerned with his hiring because of the loss to Texas after blowing the large lead. Also, I was concerned about the sudden change in coaching style and philosophy from what he exhibited to what Coach Saban brought to the position. I did not dislike the hire, but was concerned that we were hiring another Coach Dinardo, someone coming from a mediocre program that had a history of being blown out in games. Along with the Coach Dinardo thought process, I felt that Coach Miles could probably quickly make an impact on the program, but could he sustain it?
Also, at the time, because it was so late into the process when Coach Saban decided to move on, I am unsure who LSU could find to take the position.
