I remember my 1st trip to Tiger Stadium and the LSU campus. I tried to make a turn that I thought was perfectly legal only to be read the riot act by one of Baton Rouge's Nazis. I was told "things change on game day" and directed to a large field that was not fit for cows. A total mudhole and quite a trek to the stadium. Still had a great time and the Gators won. From that point on, we always took a charter bus from New Orleans. Best road trip ever, hands down.

Nothing on the piped in music?? I went to Georgia, it was good to see other things going on on the jumbotron, most adverts were about Georgia.

As being LA, we should have some LA specific concessions. GA was terrible with all concessions. But LSU could do better than the junk they serve.

there should be CATS buses running up and down River Road and down Skip Bertman to a dropoff point every 10 minutes from downtown and Farr Park...

I like where your head's at, but CATS is a completely inept entitiy. CATS has been running shuttles from downtown in the past and this year. They clearly don't run with enough frequency and they had to to raise prices for fares this year because CATS is so broke.

quote:

Roundtrip tickets were previously $4, but will be $10 this year, Capital Area Transit System (CATS) interim CEO Bob Mirabito said at a meeting Tuesday of the Downtown Development District.

The fares were previously subsidized with funds that are no longer available, he said.

“If I did not raise the fares, I’m looking at about 20 percent cost recovery,” Mirabito said.

So Alleva has thought outside the box. He's dealing with shitty infrastructure, inept local government, horrible pre-existing public transportation, etc.

quote:

a traffic map and times should be posted on the Internet and released to the media for publication in print NLT Thursday morning to give people time to plan...

Not sure how this works, but seems like it could be a good idea.

I understand they can't just tear down buildings to make more lots. But in the limited spaces, why not just build a huge parking garage, with many levels?

Why pay someone to tell you how to screw up the problem more? LSU could of asked 10 people off TD.com to do it for free

I don't blindly hurl insults at an administration that has brought greater success to LSU athletics than ever before because of some logistical problems that have ALWAYS EXISTED and they're working to improve, so yeah I must work for LSU. Awesome.

When the parking was free just 2 or 3 years ago, the traffic was never as bad as it is now. Those spots that are $40 are not being utilized.

Below could be the easiest solution.

My comment from yesterday's 10 page rant someone started.

Haven't read all of the posts here but, you know what's funny? When all parking was free on the roads inside the gate and other buildings, we didn't have this big of a problem. This is just another way of LSU trying to pry more money out of people. I wouldn't have a problem paying $5 or even $10 to park where I used to park a few years ago. However, starting the parking spots at $40 was a little bit steep on a first come first serve basis. Yes, I'm poor. Don't always have tickets and have been tailgating since 1999.

The only viable solution is to bus in fans from offsite lots, be it CATs or charter buses. Hell the sites could be in Hammond for all the out of state fans that are going to game and not bring tons of tail gate crap, but really big buses have tons of storage anyway. If they charged you twenty bucks a head but could get you there in 30 minutes and back in 30, it would be a bargain. However, you would need HOV lanes just for buses etc for this to work, Buses need to leave every thirty minutes

Why don't they tear down some ghetto instead of plowing over needed parking lots?

Joe Dean's original Plan to Expand the South End Zone had a Parking Garage in the plan. This was like 1998 or sometime around then.

So let's have Alleva tear up 100+ year old streets leading to campus to add more lanes, halt all campus improvements and construction and become the only school in the SEC that doesn't charge for parking on campus. Brilliant. Y'all would still bitch then anyway.

You are completely missing the point, broseph.
First you start charging to park on campus in addition to limiting to places people can park "because everyone else in the sec is doing it."

Then, you shift public parking over to the Nicholson area. ALL public parking.

Congrats. You've just shifted the concentration of traffic on gameday to roughly three streets.

Now factor in the added issues with ongoing construction on campus.

The point is not the traffic problem, it's that nothing was done to proactively prevent or accommodate it , and it's taken two months for them to do a study on addressing the issue.

Although our athletic staff and local law enforcement work diligently to create the best procedures for gameday traffic,

"diligently" is not the first word that comes to my mind for the effort they put forth

quote:

Before the football season, the Athletic Department contracted with a gameday traffic consulting group to evaluate our current traffic plan. The group was on site this past weekend for the Florida game, and it will again review our operations during the Texas A&M game next month.

Should have done this a long time ago, but at least they're working on it.

quote:

We rely heavily upon our local law enforcement officials to create a smooth flow of traffic both before and after the game, and we plan to reiterate to them how critical their cooperation is in moving thousands of vehicles on and off campus.

Translation: Get off your arse and put in some work for your overtime, you lazy fricks.

quote:

Finally, please consider carpooling to Tiger Stadium on game day, as that can greatly reduce the number of vehicles on campus, and please try to arrive on campus as early as possible to alleviate traffic concerns.

I Kige this. There are always at least four in our vehicle.

quote:

As you know, construction on the South End addition of the stadium has eliminated some of our entrance gates for this season. We’ve noticed that a large volume of fans who sit on the West Side of the stadium have been attempting to enter at the Southwest corner (Gates 1, 2 and 3), causing delays in getting through the gates. Please be aware that Gates 4, 5 and 6 at the Northwest corner may also be used for entering the stadium. Utilizing all six of our gates on the West Side and arriving at the gates as early as possible will help to expedite your entry into the stadium.

They should have foreseen this and had people directing ticketholders to other gates.

In all, they are at least working on the issues, I'll give them that. But most of the issues could have been anticipated and handled proactively. It should never have gotten to this point.

And I must add that if everything flowed perfectly, that's no guarantee the self-entitled, lazy portion of the fanbase would have shown up or stayed. There's blame on both sides here.

That's exactly what someone who works for LSU would say.

Does Joe pay you to post on TD?
