Not sure what was so convincing at the 0:36 mark...

But maybe you should examine the 0:25, 0:33, and 0:38 mark... or here let me help you....

Yes, if you watch from 36-38 seconds, you will see Boyd's arms contact Toliver before H2H contact occurs.

But Arakkis said it was a great call.

Glad to see at least the WAC has some integrity.

I've never seen a conference commissioner overrule the officiating crew. Would be like SEC commissioner fining the replay booth of the Alabama game. Does he have the right to do that?

Comments from fans of other schools:

quote:

Leaving his feet head first helmet to helmet I would think that is a no brainer.

quote:

Launched himself (off his feet) and led with his helmet equals illegal (cheap) shot in today's game....

quote:

Leaving your feet to make yourself a missile in the NFL is an automatic personal foul. That's a no brainer cheap shot helmet to helmet hit.

quote:

Helmet to helmet -- should have been a flag. With all of the new data that continues to come out re: concussions, there needs to be even more emphasis on this type of play. I wouldn't call it a cheap or dirty shot, its just the kind of hit that needs to be eliminated from the game. You can still hit hard and be successful at dislodging the ball without hitting the guy in the head with your helmet.

quote:

Yup, helmet to helmet cheap shot.

Not a dirty hit at all. Actually a very impressive play. Too bad the QB hung the WR out to dry like that. Its the QB's fault more than anyone. Its a clean hit.

See the Pac 10 after the obvious fix job for the OU at Oregon game the same day of the LSU at Auburn game in 2006.

I am not arguing that his arms hit first, but the rule change indicates "It is also a foul if a player targets a defenseless opponent and initiates contact above the shoulders."

You stated:

quote:

Contact was initiated below the shoulders.

I disagree that contact was initiated below the shoulders. Yeah, his helmet may not have initiated contact, but the contact sure started at least even if not above his shoulders.

And the player was suspend; so, someone more important than either of us thinks this hit was wrong.

It was dirty. And the sad thing is LA Tech fans are proud of this hit.

Facemask to helmet, it was a clean hit. It looked terrible but it was a clean hit.

Anytime you launch yourself upward, lead with the head and make contact with the opponent's head - It's NOT A CLEAN HIT. The NCAA clarified this point in their rules in 2008.

In the wake of LSU’s 24-16 win this past Saturday, Louisiana Tech freshman defensive back Chad Boyd was suspended for a half-game by the Western Athletic Conference for a helmet-to-helmet hit on LSU junior wide receiver Terrance Toliver.
