I am a huge TT fan and think he is our best wr.

Technically I guess this is a "helmet to helmet" but my question is about the rule in general. What is boyd supposed to do???

The kid is trying to make a play and didn't lower his head to hit with the crown of his helmet (like the bama player that speared JJ on a late AND illegal hit that wasn't called of course). In fact tackling 101 teaches to keep your head up and follow through with your facemask.

All in all great play by the kid and clean in my opinion...maybe this is the rule nowadays but if it is it a ridiculous/unrealistic rule.

I give the Tech player credit:
He has a good vertical leap.
It required that to get helmet to helmet on a 6' 5" WR.
It was clearly a dirty hit and took an extraordinary effort to make it so.
If you are a Tech fan, there are pleny of moral victories to find in this game. This is not one of them and your efforts to make it so are pitiful and classless.

That pass was dirty...

That's about the most dumbass statement on this board.

Pass was great. Too bad the rest of them weren't.

It was where Tolliver could have made an on-speed hitch and run with the ball. D-back was just in great position for tackle - albeit dirty hit.

Boyd should have put his shoulder pad into TT's chest where the ball was going to be pulled in to dislodge it. It would have still be a nasty hit, and would have gotten the same result. Instead, he chose to go for the head... dirty play. Should have been a penalty, but these things happen.

I would not have called this a flaggable hit last year. But seeing the way they have called other hits like this this year, I definitely was expecting the flag when I saw it, even at full game speed

Its pretty sad that this is even in question.

ITS FOOTBALL! FOOTBALL IS A VIOLENT SPORT.

"defensless receiever" ???? What is the defensive players suppose to do. Wait until TT catches it and comes down and then ask him if he is ready to get hit?

Sheeesh, good thing these pussy rules werent in place 30 years ago or the hall of fame would be vacant about 50 spots. They wear helmets for a reason and the defensive player was clearly not using his as a weapon. Sigh....get them pink jerseys and flags if this was/is a big deal imo.

Ok Billy Badass.

Have you ever been on the wrong side of defenseless helmet to helmet contact or had a concusion?

Absolutely a dirty hit, he led with his helmet, this was textbook H2H and should have been 15 yards. Nothing to be proud of here.

This....

And its TACKLE football at that. No doubt that flags have been thrown on less severe h2h hits this year, but even at the time, I thought to myself "self, I'm so glad they didn't call that a penalty".....doing so is the wussification of the game.

I love to watch a good hard-hitting ballgame, but I don't want the guys playing to turn into vegetables and mumbly bumhugs when they're 50.

Posts like Hoghunter's rarely come form anyone who has played the game.
The game is violent enough within the rules, if you play it right without cheap shots that can ruin a career or worse.

When I saw it live, I thought it was helmet to helmet. The replay shows that Boyd led with his forearms and the helmet to helmet was incidental. Clean hit. (and a very good one).

He left his feet and lead with his head, no question! The first part of his helmet that hits the facemask of TT is NOT the facemask, it is ABOVE the facemask. At the moment before impact, he lowers his head and if you cant see that, especially in the slow motion, you are blind. As for what should he have done, he should have lowered a shoulder and made a clean hit in the gut of the receiver like every non-dirty player would have done.
