Just because you think we should win a CWS title every single year or we suck, does not mean you should forget what CPM is capable of doing.
The year was 2008, CPM's second season.
4/21/2008: LSU was 23-16-1 (6-11-1 in SEC) and was coming off a 29-26-1 rookie season for CPM. We faced Tulane and trailed 4-3 heading into the Top of the 8th before spouting off 5 runs over the final two innings to win and spark something NO ONE saw coming!
LSU went on to win 23 straight games and 25 of 26 to send them to Omaha for a taste of what's to come. We also started off SEC play getting swept in Knoxville by the Vols.
They also had 29 wins after trailing after the first three innings. Our pitching was suspect but it did enough to get us to Omaha after CPM managed to brilliantly use his bullpen including taking advantage of Louis Coleman, Daniel Bradshaw, Austin Ross, and even Jared Bradford to close games. Sure, we could hit but no one ever mentions the brilliance of having a pitching staff with a 4.05 ERA including three starters with 4.12 to 4.89 ERAs and still finding ways to win close games. 10 of the 23 games were won by 3 or less runs including 4 one run games.
Fun Fact: That 23 game winning streak was the SECOND time CPM did this in his career. That's right, it was a SEC record but not a NCAA record. He also did it at Notre Dame in 2006.
What LSU did in Eugene should not be forgotten and we are heading into Tennessee knowing we can beat them.
DO NOT FORGET THIS...
The 2021 Tennessee Series: We struggled against Chad Dallas in Game One, losing 3-1.
But we had Game 2 won before they called that rain delay in the 8th inning and killed all our momentum. Game 3 was also ours when it was tied at 2 in the 8th. Who knows what happens if we play 9 innings.
TL;DR - WE CAN BEAT THE VOLS AND CPM IS THE HEAD COACH WE NEED RIGHT NOW TO GET OUR GUYS READY FOR IT. You could not ask for a better swan song for CPM than one last trip to Omaha and it is only two wins away.

If the middle does what it did against Oregon and the top catches fire we can beat anyone. Really need Labas here. He is the key to us going to Omaha.

I’m betting heavy on the tigers again! Keep this train rolling. Also hogs, dores and rebels!

I’ve been saying that this team won in Oregon because of its competitiveness. Every time Oregon scored, we responded; somehow.
Why didn’t this team do this all year? Who knows. Maybe we had a lot of young guys grow up over this season. You know the Sophs and Juniors were robbed of last season (yes, other schools dealt with it, too) but maybe it’s finally clicking in. Clutch performance, whether at the plate, on the mound, or in the field is a result of repetition. And talent. We have talent. Just needed the reps. Let’s hope it continues. UT is going through the same growth.

I still appreciate the hell out of these guys for not giving up.

They’ve had a lot of close game battles. The issue with the season is that they lost many of them and almost all in the SEC. Yes, they battle, but something isn’t there for them to come through consistently or pull away. It’s the inconsistency. You don’t know what you’ll get from the bullpen or half the lineup. So they will win a few games but it won’t last. Winning 4 in a row in a regional was impressive though. Good time to put it together despite PM’s attempted sabotage.

Played weekend series against 5 of the top 10 teams remaining in the tournament so we have all the experience needed

Love the post, but you absolutely can develop weak-minded players into having “guts”. Just have to put them into pressure situations until they learn to deal.
