Not so fast my friend. This is far from a guarantee. Lots of maneuvering between here and there. Lots of legal negotiations, etc.

I will bet:

A. Wade never takes the stand

or

B. If he does, those questions are not asked

I hope you're right, man.

What would that entail? Wade giving up Dawkins, or something, in return for not testifying/avoiding sanctions?

how is the Offer about Smart, when he didn't take the offer, and Smart is at LSU? I'm sure there's an explanation, but....

They’re are a ton of division 1 coaches whose phones could be wiretapped and we’d hear some shady stuff.

I mean...fricking TCU has the 13th ranked class with like 3 4-stars or something like that. And they haven’t won a tourney game since the Reagan Admin. What about Texas Tech? How did Billy Donovan turn a nothing basketball school into a destination for big time recruits and then success? Many other suspicious

I think it’s a bunch of BS

He never denied talking to him. He said he never had business dealings with him.

As Carville said, we got plenty of lawyers in Louisiana.

Did Wade mention money in anything you’ve read or heard? I know this is a rumor haven but insinuation isn’t proof in the real world. Again for the umpteenth time Wade was investigated last year by the FBI over these exact accusations and nothing was found.

I’m more worried about the NCAA

Not a great look for Wade and LSU. At a minimum its terrible PR. But IMO, the NCAA is going to come probe LSU's arse. The scary part of that is that LSU might be a big enough name but not a CBB blueblood... the type of program the NCAA won't mind making an example out of to pretend they've got some teeth.

Honest to God, if this is bad PR for LSU, what kind of PR is the NCAA going to get for digging into an issue that their corrupt system created? Truth be told, I think the NCAA won't do a goddamn thing because it will make them look worse than they already do. I think they avoid all of this like the plague

He can plead the 5th to avoid self incrimination

You can only plead the 5th if you trying to avoid self-incrimination. Paying players and recruits is not a crime, just an NCAA violation. Not sure the 5th Amendment is going to be applicable in this setting. The bigger question is whether it is relevant to issues at trial. Defense is going to have prove how this testimony is relevant.

Exactly.

In the event he is actually called to testify, the defense will try and lead him down a line of questioning to paint a picture of a dirty world of college basketball that his client was unfortunately swept up in. I would hope the prosecution will keep them on a short leash and object to any line of questioning which seeks to muddy the water and gets the focus of the court off of the allegations levied against Dawkins.

This is all separate from what the NCAA may or may not do. They don't have to prove allegations of recruiting violations beyond a reasonable doubt to punish Wade and LSU.

My impression with the whole thing is that the NCAA has and has had its eyes on Wade for a minute now. They are going to do what they will do and I'm not convinced that Wade being subpoenaed changes anything in that sense.

I agree it’s first odd that it’s only LSU and no one is writing articles on Zion. I don’t care to be honest I’ve had a blast this year. Wade doesn’t have to plead the 5th. He can however answer to the best of his knowledge as vague as possible. My question is if the tapes were thrown out and are being leaked by Dawkins, how does the fbi feel about their case being aired in public? If Pat Forde can write on leaked tapes of wade what about the others?

It’s not what you know, it’s what you can prove in court. Secondly, why the hell is the FBI conducting investigations into college basketball? Surely they more important things to be doing with their time.

This isn't good. The part about the deal leaning heavy towards his family, and he wants a larger peice is not a good look.

I think all of us hope nothing comes of this and all of us know how dirty the college basketball recruiting game is across the board.

That said, I think an LSU fan would be in a tad bit of denial if you weren’t the least bit concerned about how this might play out.

Let’s hope it comes to nothing. But it’s absolutely possible that this turns out bad.

Again, a scholarship, playing time, and tickets don't help a middleman at all.
