Fast Times, The Caterie burned to the ground on New Years Day. Fire actually burned for 2 1/2 days.

There are tons of great seafood restaurants in the area. Parrain's, Sammy's on Highland, Mike Andersons, Boutin's (has live Zydeco Music and Dancing on Friday Nights)
If you are looking for live music, Phil Brady's (Mid City) as well as several venues Downtown are available.
You'll be surprised how friendly most of the people are here. Enjoy the hospitality and remember to spend LOTS of money.

For the guy who asked what part of West Virginia I'm from not from WV, just outside of Pittsburgh near Aliquippa (birthplace of Pete Maravich).
Anyway, my wife and I are looking forward to the trip. Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm ready to experience LSU, the food, and a great football game. Gotta love college football!

Then go by the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and have your picture taken in front of his statue. You can also go visit the Coliseum, aka Cow Palace, and see where Pete had his glory days.
My maternal grandfather was from Buckhannon in Upshur County. My mother grew up in Huntington and graduated from Marshall.

Coming in on Thursday will give you a couple of days to visit all the sights mentioned on campus. Do that before Saturday so that on gameday you can soak up the tailgates.
Eat some good seafood. As others have said, it is totally safe. Do not order stuff you can get at home.
Mostly, come and enjoy yourself!

Yeah- I was about to say....

When you find some friendly tailgaters (and you will find lots), if they're cooking something in a huge black iron pot on the ground, stick around. That will probably be jambalaya. Tell them you've never tried it, and you're in like Flynn.

Might mention...be prepared to walk. The traffic is unreal and parking is far from the stadium. There are a few places to park and take a shuddle which might be the thing to do being from out of town.

Definitely check out the tailgaters...Approach them with a good attitude and...You'll have a great time and you won't go hungry all day! Enjoy your visit!

First of all let me advise you I am a huge Tiger fan. with that said, I respect that you are asking about things to do and see. Most of the comments suggested that you "play" along. I agree. Make sure you wear WVU "wear" It is true you will get a look of "tigerbait" but you will eat good and have plenty of booze. Also a visit to see Mike is a "must" and as a former member of the Golden Band From Tigerland I can assure you that you will be impressed with their march down victory hill. Do not miss it. They do not sell alcohol in Tiger Stadium but it is easy to smuggle inside and if you forget you can probably find some easily.
I used to work with several friends of mine who are huge 'neers fans. I truly respect them and I respect the tradition of Mountaineer Football. Ok I think the Big East is a Pussy Conference and it is insulting that they are considered a BCS conference, but your fans are the closest thing I have found as far as fanatic fans to Tiger Fans.
So my advise is to truly take it all in. don't be too disappointed if you do not see any couches on fire. As far as places to eat are concerned, I would suggest Mike Anderson's or Ralph and Kakoos. I am not sure if they still have turtle soup on the menu but if they do you have got to try it. Finally as you stroll around and listen to the verbal abuse (albeit in good fun)make sure you throw some "smack" back. It may be a good idea to remind the Tiger faithful that had the Mountaineers not choked at home against underdog Pittsburgh back in 2007, we never would have won our third national championship.
Speaking of National Championships, I realize WVU has won a total of six of them. All in "Air Rifle" Enjoy our hospitality and enjoy the game even though the Tiger will "unleash a shite storm" on you and have a breakout game against you. My prediction 41-14. "Have a Great Day"

I never knew TJ Ribs was this popular. I've always seen it as a shitty chain resturant....

I would also recommend Sammy's on Highland Road if you like seafood

If you are in town on Friday night, I'd recommend Boutin's restaraunt on Bluebonnet. Live, authentic cajun music with real cajun food. must see for tourists.
My suggestion for Sat is to definately get to campus at around 8AM the latest. It is beautiful to see the campus come to life. Circumnavigate the stadium as many times as possible. There are a bunch of great tailgates, and, as stated earlier, if you take the shite talking for what it is, just fun, you'll definately get invited to a party, where you'll be fed and your thirst will be quenched. They've moved the athletic hall of fame since the last time I saw it, but it's somewhere around the PMAC (basketball stadium). Ask around. A lot of cool stuff in there. Mike the Tiger is really cool. Watching the band come down victory hill- must see.
Ask where to find the Krewe de Ragu!!! A great tailgate. Check out the "Weapon of Mass Consumption".
Finally, Make sure you are in the stadium early enough to see the tigers run out the tunnel. I know you're from an opposing team, and I don't expect you to cheer, but trust me, you'll get goosebumps.
Overall, keep the right attitude, throw back some fun shite talking when you get a chance, and enjoy the scenery. It's gonna be a great weekend.

Chimes bar and restaurant, Mike the Tiger cage, March down victory hill, tailgating all over

This is pathetic. Dude is asking to see LSU traditions (like football and school history) and you people are sending him to the fricking Chimes?
I suggest you go to the Dr. Andoine Museum on campus for starters. Watch the LSU band come down victory hill before the game (2 hours prior). You could try to get in the PMAC before the game and watch the band and cheerleaders perform (airconditioning). Walk around campus, check out the bell tower, the union, the stadium facilities (weight room, rehab pools, etc..) Thats all Ive got for now...

One other thing I forgot about.
I suggest on Sunday morning if you have time before heading home. Park over by the levee (by the vet school) and walk up on the top of it and take in the Mississippi River.
It's not "beautiful" per se, but it is something I like to do. Just watching it flow is pretty cool to me.
And you "constant entertainment or I'm bored" types save your breath.

Go over to the lakes on east side of campus near the Lod Cook Conference Center (Sorority Row)and check out the LSU Athletic Museum. Also, Mike Anderson's is a great place for some good Louisiana Seafood. It's located off of West Lee Drive south of campus. On game day around mid afternoon make your way to the intersection of Tower Drive and South Stadium drive then walk west towards Tiger Stadium. We tailgate directly across from the Dairy Science building and the menu is blackened redfish and crawfish etouffe'.
I hope you have a great time...at least until kick-off.
Oh yeah...
