..We all need to keep in mind that the defensive coach for Clemson is from the SABAN tree.. ..he was a genius when he was at Bama...

WVU guy is kind of an odd duck, but come on man. They could have put up over 80 last night if they'd wanted to.

Clemson got what they needed after thinking they were a top ten team.

I think the lesson here is:

For example, if you are Dabo Swinney, don't get mad. Tell your Defense to NOT give up (which they did). Tell them that there will be punishment for giving up on a play.

THere should be a new challenge out there with with blowout games (ever see the HS coach in S.Texas who wins by 65 point on average? This will be more prevalent in years to come). Prove to your coaches that you belong out there.

WHile a game like this can boost WVU next season, it may destroy Clemson's season, next year.

Getting destroyed like this, sticks in the psyche of players and coaches. And if they cannot end on a good note, of a bad game, then shame on them. THe coaches should challenge the defense: Tell them, "We are down by 35 points, if they score on you again, I will PT you until you puke....even after a bowl game." If the defense, rises to the occasion, then they have something to build on, and the coaches can prove to the players that they are not just talking heads that get paid alot; they are motivators.

With that being said....what an arse-kicking that was!

I want whatever teams we beat to run up the score. Besides, it's a bowl game, not LSU vs ULL...

frick em. WVU finally gets their offense in veteran form under the first year under holgerson and you want them to stop? frick that. and frick the ACC.0-2 in bcs bowl games this year. and VT should not have soaked up a sugar bowl spot. Did georgia get any thought on the sugar bowl? they were also a conference championship game loser, the damn game has ties to the sec, and no bowl season should ever see two acc teams in bcs bowl games.

Was Holgerson bitching about LSU "running up the score?" I honestly can't remember. He was sure bitching about the refs a lot.

Even if he contradicted himself, who cares? He's doing his job and acting in the best interest of this school.

I'm not a WVU fan but I thought that was awesome. BCS Bowls are big boy stuff. That wasn't Northwestern State in September. That was the Orange Bowl in Miami in January vs a ranked conference champ. You don't show up prepare to be embarrassed.

WVU has an identity issue and have a lot to prove. They were snubbed by both the ACC and SEC despite a very solid athletic history and especially in the last 10 years (football and basketball). More power to them. I'd have done the same thing.

The only way they could have gotten in is if they won the sugar bowl, as LSU and Bama are already taking up the 2 spots allotted to each conference.

i agree. Holgerson is trying to build a program at WVU, or at least take it to the next level. He wants to showcase his offense for the next recruited QB and offensive players to see.

Plus, how much was Maryland up on Clemson in the 3rd quarter? 3 scores? WVU wanted to come out in the 3rd quarter and squash any attempt like that.

Once they got two more scores, they did pretty much ratchet it down.

Also, Holgerson has bad hair. (obligatory)

I thought the SEC could have been eligible as there is a clause stating that the exception to the 2 team/conference rule was if the two teams were in the championship game? Maybe not, I just remember reading that in the final weeks of the season.

Only if neither team in the championship were the conference champion,i.e. if Georgia had've beaten LSU and LSU still made the championship game.

I'm not sure, but I do know he's been very complimentary of LSU's players and the programs since the game. Compared to most of the coaches who weren't after LSU slaughtered them.

This is very true, on multiple occasions. He said basically LSU is where they want to be.

Football is the only sport where we care about the losers' feelings. Holgerson kept Gino in but 6 different players scored td's not counting the qb - 13 different skill players touched the ball. In one sense holgerson's obligation is to get the kids in his program some reps and some stats and have some fun, if Clemson doesn't like it then prepare for your bowl game or don't accept the bid.

I loved every minute of it.

No one in the media was giving WVU a chance and not only did they win, they put up more points than Baylor did.

Now people can't say that WVU sucks and that letting them score 21 points is embarrassing(despite the fact we won by 4 scores)
