It's easy to blame the QB and OL for bad passes, but part of that is because the WRs are getting no separation. We have tons of speed at WR, but they rarely get separation which forces the QB to throw is some really tight spaces. With an atrocious OL and a young QB, the WRs have to create space and have to learn to work back towards the ball when a play breaks down. It's so frustrating watching teams with half the WR talent totally destroy opposing defenses week after week.

#1 Boutte
#2 Bech (whether you play him TE/WR, just get him on the field
#3 ? Palmer is okay, he catches the ball and that is about it
#4

Jenkins has had his shots, they need to try Moore, Thomas, and Smith... Thomas had some drops.

Thomas is the one they need.

If the freshmen are elite, you play them now... because the veterans don't have it.

Bech should be on the field as a TE/WR almost every play, he brings a certain energy and physicality right away. Its very noticeable. HE WANTS TO PLAY.

Yeah, whoever want to play, you play them because the veterans have had years to show what they got. They don't have it.

Bech wants to play, you let him play.

I agree w this, if you are veteran player you gotta take your chance when called upon, a coach should give you only so many chances then its back of the line for you. This is a team game and everyone has to do their job.

Especially all these RBs and WRs.

Reward those who rise to the challenge.

BJT really does have all the tools. I was really disappointed w his drops / performance.

All in his head, he needs to go to his beast mode and I think it will click in.

- Boutte and Bech should be in the game almost the whole game
- RBs should be in open try outs, this is not the right skill set for TDP.... the freshmen need to be given opportunties.
- WRs 3 and 4 should be wide open... try out...

There is no magic solution, small steps can help if enough of them are made.

Everyone on LSU should watch how Bech plays, physical, energy, and determination... you can feel it.

Just watch Bech break out of a cut, that gives the QB confidence in the throw.

one last thing - these WR better start blocking lbrs safeties and corners into the dirt. We have so few big plays - these RBs need help breaking big runs.

Because we are running everything underneath. Its a dink/dunk offense and it sucks.

Hopefully college game day does another segment on the disappointment of LSU football this Saturday, this time focusing on the WR’s.

Seemed to help the defense.

When is Nabers suppose to be back? I know it was his shoulder keeping him out but he didn’t look to be nursing it yesterday when celebrating on the sidelines.

Boutte and Bech need to be the features of the passing game. As of right now, both need double digit targets until someone else steps up.

I understand we're running shorter routes, but that was our bread and butter in 2019. I can still remember Burrow connecting with Jefferson on a quick slant over the middle. Jefferson was so successful because when he lined up in the slot he could utilized his speed and quickness to create separation. Also by lining up inside, often times it forced the opposing team to put a LB on Jefferson and that created a huge advantage for LSU. Our young receivers need to learn how to create space to help take pressure off of Johnson.

+1. Best take of the day! Our receivers are getting OPEN. They just need to CATCH the football! We should look to see Nussmeier getting more snaps moving forward. Johnson has game but he is not as talented/precise w his passing skills. Both have mobility and that’s a double bonus! Just need to put it together one game at a time. Let it happen. Geaux Tigers

Completely disagree. Our “bread and butter” in 2019 was throwing the ball wherever we wanted, forcing the defense to try to cover the entire field. The deep routes over the middle, in particular, were a staple. Burrow had 12.5 air yards per attempt in 2019. Max has 6.7 air yards per attempt in 2021.

We haven’t thrown deep over the middle since Brennan’s injury. Over 20% of Brennan’s passing yards and over 25% of his touchdowns came on throws >20 yards past the LOS between the hashes. Max Johnson has not even attempted a single throw >20 yards between the hashes - in 2020 or 2021.

Last year it was easy to point at his inexperience, combined with the losses of Gilbert and Marshall, as reasons the staff stopped emphasizing those routes and went more to short, high percentage throws. But it’s starting to look more and more like the staff either A) doesn’t think we can complete those passes or B) no longer values that aspect of the passing game.

My money is on A, considering Orgeron’s comments about bringing back that offense and our relative success targeting that part of the field with Brennan last year.
