Yes.

Not long ago, people were predicting 6-6 (or worse), 7-5, and 8-4 was the rock bottom minimum for Coach O to keep his job one more year. The pundits put us in the cellar.

One poster promised to get a Coach O tattoo if LSU went 10-2. So damn near everyone on here should be slobbering over a 10-2 record.

That's possible, but it's a big order with a new QB, too many dropped passes, limited depth on the O line, and coaching that flip flops between outstanding effort and looking confused.

Florida outplayed us and out coached us. It happens. And, the Swamp lived up to its reputation.

That said, like you, I believe this team and these coaches can step up and outperform the limited expectations set for them. Time to rise up from the knockdown and be great.

Geaux Tigers!

And Les was fired, in part, for losing to Ole Miss and Arkansas. That means he wasn't meeting expectations. Do you think Orgeron should be held to those same expectations?

Of course he is to be held to those standards. In year 1 one though, not so much. As he builds this program back to where it was, yes. Les Miles lowered expectations. They need to be rebuilt.

Any LSU fan that says no is either an idiot or hasn't seen this team play this year.

I would say the opposite. He was a victim of his own success.

Given our remaining schedule and coaching staff I would not pass up a guaranteed 10-2 with NY6 Bowl for the chance to go 11-1 and sneak into the playoff.

Les kept expectations sky high until 2008, when he truly put his thumbprint on the program. 2010-12 we looked to be trending back but his philosophical approach assured that never happened.

Huh? He raised expectations to where anything less than consistent 10 win seasons was insufficient. He couldn't reach that standard that was established by his own success and was fired. I don't see how that equates to "lowering expectations".

Okay, what about in year 2? If he goes 9-3 or worse this year, would you agree that he's not meeting expectations?

If Les Miles lowered expectations, he wouldn't have been fired. Do you see how that works? He was fired because he was not meeting expectations.

do you think going 9-3 this year is the same as going 9-3 last year?

lolwut

by not meeting expectations, you have lowered them. This isn't that hard.

anytime you have to fire a coach, there is a buffer period for the next coach to retool things.

Let me ask you this, did you think Les Miles should have been fired? If so, at what point in his tenure

I think we have a disconnect here. Les' success from 05-07 and 10-12 are what raised expectations for the program (along with the foundation that Saban laid). It seemed clear from 13-16 that he wasn't going to reach those expectations on a consistent and he was fired. I guess you could say expectations of LES were lowered but the expectations of the PROGRAM were not, and he was accordingly fired.

You don't see how expectations are lowered when you are not reaching that expectation?

A coach was fired. Before you even discuss specifics, the expectations are lowered for the next guy, simply because the cause(s) of the firing must be remedied.

In Miles' case, you have 2 years of damage in which he was allowed to coach past the point of when he should have been terminated. If you ask some people, it goes back even further than that.
