I answered your question with your own quote

UGA would get in because they are the SEC champions

Bama and LSU both have one loss then if Bama beat us then they'd have the head to head tiebreaker over us and would get in. Then comes down to if there is a scenario where 3 SEC teams could get into the playoffs (would be completely based on if all other teams have losses because if everyone in the country had one loss then LSU UGA and BAMA probably all would then deserve a playoff spot)

stupid on my end!

Not sure it would be so easy to put UGA/BAMA in though and leave LSU out who had beat Miami, MSU, Auburn, UGA, and A&M.

I've gotten to the point where I've become indifferent to beating Bama until Saban retires.

I hate defending Bama but Bama being Bama would be the first reason for the selection committee plus defending national champions.

Second reason would be that if they won head to head then they beat the team that beat Miami MSU Auburn UGA and A&M and beat most those teams themselves.

Beat Alabama, but lose to Georgia and Mississippi State?

You haven't qualified it enough! So if we lose to Bama but run the table we will be in the playoffs which is one of the goals for the season for LSU. So we will probably get another chance at Bama in the playoffs. So losing to Bama but running the table just about assures LSU of playing for a National championship. I AM ALL IN for that!!!

Now if we beat Bama but lose to UGA & Moo St. the chances of us playing for a National Championship are probably not that great with 2 losses. If you can say we beat Bama but lose to Moo St and UGA but still play for a National Championship then I will go with that, but I can't see how a 2 loss team with no conf championship plays for a National Championship.

You're probably right and I'm already disgusted at this outcome

But Wisky schedule was a fraction of what ours is this year.
You say that like it matters

It doesn't. And honestly, it's just the usual SEC boost anyway. We will not play a significantly more difficult schedule than we used to throughout most of the 2000's.

OOC: 1 ranked P5 team, 2 mid-majors, 1 FCS team. Respectable, but we were always looking at 4-0 vs 3-1.

Conference:
SEC West with an elite (Top 5) opponent, another around #10, another around #13, another that might be ranked or not, another about as good as a top mid-major, and one that is dogshit.
We used to face that every season, Auburn was the top foe, Arkansas and Alabama were good teams. A&M is good but probably not as good as during the Manziel years.

East foes: 1 elite (Top 5), 1 decent (Florida). Florida used to be elite and we played them every year.

Our opponent's rankings in conference will drop as teams beat each other. If Auburn loses to UGA and Bama, they're a 9-3 team, not bad, but not OMG great either. Wait until Miss State starts playing conference before you write them in as anything more than solid.

If we get through it, we're absolutely the #1 seed, just as the SEC team was usually the top BCS or playoff seed in the past. But if we take a couple hits, then we're not a lock at all.
11-1 and not in the SEC championship, we're still behind Clemson, Ohio St, and Oklahoma, if they match our wins and take their conferences.

he real question is what gets us into a better bowl game?

One loss to Alabama or a victory over them and two losses?
for a program like ours, it's all about winning the West.

Honestly beating Bama right now is all that matters. Bowl games and all that mean nothing if you can’t beat them. Technically we could lose only to them make it into the playoffs the lose to somebody else we win the whole thing and it would be debated about how it doesn’t mean anything because we never beat Bama.

May depend on what happens otherwise to those other teams.

I'd rather lose to Bama in the regular season, skip the SEC title, and beat them in the natty.

So...beat UGA in the regular season and have UGA beat Bama in the SEC champ then...Bama, UGA, LSU, OSU in playoffs. LSU beat UGA in semi and Bama in final.

You know...since you asked

Beat Alabama, but lose to Georgia and Mississippi State?

Pretty good debate going on in a text thread of mine.
One more than likely gets us to the SEC CG playing for a shot at the playoffs.

The other does not.

Not a good debate IMO.

Your question brings up the thought "Show me a happy loser and I'll show you a loser," a slight paraphrase of Vince Lombardi's famous phrase.

There is no way 3 SEC teams are making the playoff, unless every other top team in the country has 2 losses. Only Bama gets a free pass to the playoff without winning the SEC.

It would be better to wish that Bama gets 2 losses and doesn't get the free pass this year.

It's funny how some of you think it's a given that we go to the playoffs with one loss and without winning the SEC championship game. We're NOT going to get the Bama treatment, LOL. The only way we get in is to win that game and beat Bama, both.

... And if we beat Bama this year... And hold on to Aranda... We're definitely headed to the playoffs sooner or later.

I would prefer to lose to Alabama and run the table, which means meeting the Tide again in the playoffs in the title game where Alabama would mysteriously have a bad game and LSU would win 21-0 creating a beautiful symmetry.
