Get to 2-0 and worry about cobbling together 1 more win to advance. fricking around and burning 3-4 bullpen arms in game 1 would be bad even if LSU won.

This is obviously the smart play
you would think the most knowledgeable fans in baseball would understand this. The goal is always to start 2-0.

lol I was asking myself if it was too early to crack open the Shiners. Thanks for removing all doubt for me!

That's an opinion. It's based on simplistic thinking.

I think there is minimal risk in throwing Ackerman.

And, my plan gives us a MUCH BETTER chance of getting the 3rd win which you need to advance. We'd be throwing Jump and Holman vs. UNC.

Your plan also gives “us” a MUCH BETTER chance of ending up in the losers bracket.

This board also seems to forget this team lost to Southern with the same bullpen arms everyone is yelling to throw today.

I didn't forget that. I'm just comfortable with risk...especially when it's not like you aren't going to have to win a game with Ackerman anyway.

I'd prefer that game to be Wofford instead of UNC.

Scared mentality vs supreme confident mentality that Skip and Paul incorporated. They never pitched their ace in game one. Their attitude was that LSU could easily beat their game one opponent with their 3rd starter. They both did pretty good here.
playing Wofford and their #1 offense is a lot different than what Paul and Skip were up against in game 1s…… if we were playing 40-loss Tulane in a home regional then you could pitch off and be confident

It’s not a scared mentality it’s the smart mentality. 2-0 is always the goal

That's fine. We beat Wofford. North Carolina beats LIU. Wofford throws off again against LIU. Beats them. LSU beats UNC. Wofford saves the ace for an elimination game against UNC and beats them. That would be best case scenario.

Throw Jump out there. Get 3 quick outs. LSU scores 10 in Bot 1st then pull Jump

I don't think Wofford's offense is anywhere near the top echelon of offenses out there. We've faced better offenses probably 20-30 times this year.

Winning the regional is the goal. And, the discussion is which path gives us the highest likelihood of doing that. Anyone who has watched this team knows it is vulnerable without Jump or Holman starting. We were runruled in that situation many times.

I can't spell his name, usually just type Ack and apparently now have just changed it in my mind.

So your suggestion is to not start Holman or Jump in game 1 against a very good offense?

Makes sense.

highest likelihood of winning the regional is starting 2-0. We are pitching Holman against UNC in game 2. That gives us the best chance.

Floyd and Hurd were hot by then and it was a weather situation decision and Tulane was way better than Wofford Jr high. We don't have a no.3 period.

This year we have to win in 3 games or we will lose regional. This is indisputable.

This is why Jump started BTW. Wofford’s lineup is very good.

then why the frick would we throw our #3 against the highest rated offense in the tournament runs-wise and BA-wise? Crazy this Jr high team has those numbers in the 8th best conference and are putting up crooked numbers right now against Jump.
