Actually no QB who runs ever beats Bama. Even Nick Marshall, who was much more runner than passer beat Bama by throwing for 400 yards not running. QBs who try to run vs Bama get obliterated, you can’t beat em that way. There have only been 2 QBs to ever run for 100 yards vs them under Saban and both were blown out
The point the other poster (5Alive?) was making and with which I agree is that it's really hard to have success vs Bama with a QB who CAN'T run. Whether the QB actually does run is not the point. Having a QB who can run forces Bama (and any defense) to alter its schemes to account for that.
I'm not saying you need a Cam Newton, or an option threat. You need someone who can move in the pocket, and take off if under duress. 2019, Burrow's biggest play was a run late in the game. You've got guys like Watson, Manziel, Nix, Jefferson, Marshall (as mentioned above), Bennett, Cardale Jones at OSU, even Lawrence.
Bennett is the only guy not to run against them, but his MO is still a mobile QB, not a statuesque pocket passer.
For the record, I think Brennan wins the job. But if you're talking about the guy to beat Alabama, you need someone who can keep plays alive, not just stand back and sling it.

The first quarter vs Missouri alone he threw 2 downfield darts while rolling on a full sprint, one for a TD and another TD as he got crushed just outside the pocket.
Those were wide open throws. any QB could completed those throws!

someone shared PFF stats on Brennan against the blitz a while back and his numbers were amazing. he might not have electric feet, but he can quickly key in and get the ball out. he can slide and climb well enough to succeed as long as the line has a pulse. that'll be the key to all of this; the line. frankly, its likely Kelly's lack of confidence in the line that made Jayden Daniels necessary.

Only ones who could pass it well.

More important is the ability to excel at the primary responsibility for the position. I’ll take a passer that can’t run over a runner that can’t pass any day.
Les Miles would be appalled.

Daniels would have scored with first and goal against Missouri. Don't care if he runs it, throws it, crawls, or walks it in.

14min- roll out pass
14:50-under pressure touchdown, perfectly placed ball
22:35-roll out deep pass
28-1st down run, play he was injured on, should've went out if bounds, tried to spin, leson probably learned.
29:55- hit as he threw,Touchdown
41:20-3rd and short reciver dropped catchable pass for 1st down
44:15- tight window throw, touchdown
1:35:35- deep pass, perfect placement 75yd TD
1:55:45 another nice deep pass placed where only his reciever could catch
2:12:00- a chance to put the game away and they play call a deep pass to tory Carter instead of arik or Marshall
2:23:24 final drive starts with 5:18 left to play
2:31:35 great throw to set them up at the.5 yard line
Terrible playcalling and poor clock management did them in here.
LSU's inability/refusal to run the ball
The best olineman, Ed Ingram, being out
And poor playcalling cost them the game
45 seconds left 2 straight runs that ate clock

Brennan played vs some of the worst defenses i have ever seen in miss state and mizzou. Mizzou played fricking walk ons lol. Let’s see what he does vs a defense with a pulse lol.

No they weren't, they had 7 guys total out, only one was a DB, and 3 were dlineman, and they were still killing lsus oline

He completed a bunch of passes? Still didn't see that end in a touchdown. Just see a lot of excuses

Running QBs is what beats Alabama.
So . . . you think the QB is going to be the true difference maker against Bama this year?

I think even Joey B couldn't plug the gap between them and us this year. We need to rebuild quite a few departments before we're ready to take teams at the top on again and have an even level of talent.

Brennan’s only 3 games are all better than any 3 game stretch Daniels has ever had in his 29 game career.
False... check his 3 game stretch against UCLA, Oregon St, and Oregon his freshman season.
You got downvoted for this, but it's actually true. In his true freshman year in his 2nd through 4th games, he put up over 1000 yards passing. He had 400+ yards passing in their upset win over Oregon who ended up ranked #5. During that stretch, he had 10 TDs and 0 interceptions.
Brennan accounted for over 1000 yards too, had 11 TDs, but also had 3 interceptions. Daneils didn't have that many interceptions his whole true freshman year as a starter.
Daniels did go on to have an awful game against Utah after that great 3-game stretch before recovering.
Myles has a great arm and beautiful long ball. With the right O-line and a sound RB game, I think he can produce for us. If the line breaks down, that's when there are bigger issues with him. Both guys bring different things to the table.

I mean, we were in total chaos and we were 1 play away from beating them. And I think we outplayed them. So you never know.

I would absolutely love to steal one or more that we probably shouldn't. Especially from the Gumps.
I think our defense - especially the d-line - will be fun to watch and will wreck some shiite.
Okay. . . I'm ridin. We're kicking Bama's azz!!

He completed some really good passes, extended plays by moving to his right.
Would you be saying the things you've been saying if they would've won 41-14?

This is the only reason I think Daniels will be starting for now
I want Brennan to start but our Oline isn't great
A practice report yesterday said that the oline didn't look great against the dline
Daniels can extend plays with broken protection and that's ultimately why I think he's the frontrunner rn
He's also handled the last 4 practices with the 1st team and has thrown well
This battle has a good bit left, but Daniels has a slight edge at the moment imo
But I really want Brennan to be the starter and hope he is
The coaches will make the right choice
(Brennan fan's opinion)

No they weren’t, and no not many QBs could make those throws.

He’s absolutely zipping those deep balls. Curious how he’s looking on the short/intermediate stuff
