I don't know this to be true...but I guess the rationale could be that if you are going to play a pressure / blitz heavy defense, you'd want the offense to play ball control as much as possible.

Now, that didn't happen at all against UF, but the rationale could be there.

If our defense is as good as we think it is, I think it allows you to be more aggressive on offense, especially once you cross midfield

Being too conservative on offense actually hurts the defense if you get multiple 3-and-outs and get dominated in TOP

Have y’all forgotten how much we dominated the time of possession against Clemson? Or how deep our defense is and how many guys we play? Did we ever look tired Saturday night? And you also seem to have not noticed we have probably the best punter in the country.

No team is gonna consistently go on 85-90 yard 10-12 plays drives on our defense. The longer they have to go the higher the chance they frick up and turn the ball over. Like they did 5 times. Every game is its own single entity. That was how we won the game Saturday against Florida. We will win other games in different ways.

Brian Kelly said today that there are issues with the running game and technique issues with run blocking.
I thought Alex "I was fired at Florida State" Atkins was supposed to fix all that. He was supposed to come in and clean up Sylvester's OL coaching mess with the running game.

That hasn't happened.

And why the Frick is Sylvester still hanging on as the OL coach?

Sylvester is football Nikki and Beth. (Fargas and Torina)

Agreed - ball control is not the same as being conservative. I think you can control the ball and still push it down the field.

The interceptions sort of skew the whole equation - we were dominated in terms of TOP but then we got takeaways.

UF's defense has now only allowed 2 TDs in 3 games, so it's not like we were going to score at will either way, but extending some drives would have helped.

Does it limit his ability to throw it 7-15 yards between the hashes?

He has thrown over the middle in every game including a TD to zavion Thomas against UF. But yes he is limited on those throws too. Even on that TD you could see that it wasn't as sharp as last year.

Does it also hinder Nuss' ability hand off? Because it's not his torso injury that is preventing the running game from having success. It's the predictable approach that either defenses know what is coming or LSU's personnel can't execute well.

It does not hinder his ability to hand it off but it does hinder the ability to back the defense off. If we can't throw the ball down the field, the defense can play tight and there are more bodies in the box. Thats on top of the OL being bad at run blocking.

Outside of screens which everyone hates, how do you get creative when your offense is put in a 10 yard box due to the QBs injury?

Go watch any LSU game under Sloan. The passing game thrives when they attack the middle of the field.

Do you really think that LSU is saying "Hey you know those middle passes that always work? Lets avoid them." I think its far more likely that passing the ball over 10 yards is taxing on whatever injury Nuss has so they are throwing down field sparingly.

They should sit Nuss vs SLU and have him as ready as can be for OM.
