Explain how he was sloppy? The FBI was following some random shoe guy who had nothing to do with the NCAA and Will Wade was collateral damage. On this audio tape, Will Wade made a comment about an offer to Javonte Smart. The NCAA crawled up Javonte and his family’s arse inside and out and found….. nothing.
The payment from his wife’s checking account was an extortion made by the girlfriend of a player from…. Virginia Commonwealth University.
Where were the LSU money men to step up and make this girl go away? Why doesn’t LSU basketball have the support system that the schools Will Wade was expected to beat do?

If you think Wade was the only coach at LSU that had players directly on the payroll, you’re an idiot. O had several guys on the direct payroll. Why do you think Ricks had a mystery injury after O was canned and finished out the season, because O stopped making the payments.
And to the OP that called him mediocre, please identify the other LSU basketball coach that had NCAA tournament teams in 80% of his seasons and never had a team not go to a postseason tournament (beyond the conference tournament).
The only place that 5 year run is mediocre is Duke, Kentucky or Kansas. He was not even 40, and won the league, made the sweet 16, never missed the tournament, all with the NCAA crawling up his arse and virtually no support from his own AD.
Oh and to the crowd that claims, he had better talent during that stretch, you’re wrong. Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee had better recruiting rankings and more drafted players during that stretch. Yet he still had more conference wins than all those schools during that run.

He made himself an easy target and then instead of complying, he fanned the flames by telling the NCAA to frick off.

He was not hit with a show cause. Bruce Pearl got hit with a show cause, but not Will Wade.

How was he sloppy? He got caught because of an FBI wiretap, that makes him unlucky not sloppy. How many other coaches had their calls picked up by an FBI wire.
He literally did it just like every other coach, except for a few blue bloods that had a better infrastructure in place.
And for the dumbasses that are going to say, he made payments from him wife’s account, he actually made payments from a joint account. However, those payments were to a third-party not directly related to any recruit, meaning the NCAA could not prove it was a payment for an improper benefit. The NCAA knew it couldn’t prove it, but put it in the NOA anyway. At the end of the day, the NCAA never proved that was a violation. Which means it was the opposite of sloppy. It was done in a way that the NCAA could not prove.
