Greg Heiar has been a winner everywhere he’s been as a player, head coach, and now as an assistant coach," head coach, Gregg Marshall said. "He builds relationships which are beneficial in recruiting and his record as a head coach is exemplary. We feel like Greg and his family are the complete package."
Heiar’s first five years on the WSU campus have coincided with the most successful stretch in the school's 109-year basketball history, with four Missouri Valley Conference regular season titles and five-consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, including a run to the 2013 Final Four.
The Shockers enter the 2016-17 season with a 148-30 record since Heiar’s arrival in the summer of 2011, and their .831 winning percentage over that four-year span is among the best in Division I college basketball.
Heiar works extensively with the Shocker guards and helped mentor All-Americans Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet to first team all-conference status in back-to-back-to-back seasons.

If the first hire wasn't a big time hire, this one is. The top assistant at Wichita St for a good while after just killing it as a head coach in the JUCO ranks. Known for defense and just a good basketball guy. Super pumped about this.

Is this what no money for assistant basketball coaches buys?

All the initial twitter talk has Wichita St fans upset about this. Well liked over there so that's always a good sign.

Prior to his stint at Southern Miss, he spent six years at Chipola (Fla.) Junior College, including his last five at the school as the head coach. While at Chipola, Heiar coached the Indians to a 164-15 record. He coached 40 all-conference players and sent 39 players to Division I schools. He was named the Panhandle Conference Coach of the Year five times, and earned NJCAA Region VIII Coach of the Year four times.

A lot of up's and down's tonight. Pick
up a top-100 PF...lose the best player from last year's team...add a very good asst. coach to the staff.
