There is zero good reason to do this now.
If LSU is in a bad spot (and from a distance it looks like they are) you lay low and address this in the off-season.
But you don’t shoot yourself in the foot in the middle of the season. That alone will do as much damage to the program as anything that will come from finishing the season and then taking action.
This is a simple cost benefit analysis. What do we gain by acting now? What do we lose?

Innocent of what? To come out and say you didn't pay players is basically confirming that it sounds like you're paying players.
Regardless, to ask people to withhold judgment clearly implies you're not guilty.
