Will time prove Saints would have been better off with Cushenberry and Queen?

I know i would much rather watch Tigers and they had to grade pretty close.

Ruiz was the best interior OL in this draft and it wasn’t especially close.

Queen and Baun are close in grade, so we will see how that works out. Payton said he saw interior OL as a position of need, and that’s why he went the way he did.

Who knows? They still would have have to trade up to 82 to get Cush.

My gut says Cush can't be as good a guard as Ruiz and an athlete like Queen would be a waste in the middle, so assuming the same trades, I'd say the saints did the right thing here.

I kind of like Baun better than Queen.

I thought with Tom gone some Tigers might get drafted by the Saints. There’s still time this year.

And I know Clapp was a late throw.

Davis is the Mike. Queen was not coming in and taking that spot. Baun is better on the outside. Fits a position of need. It's not like the Saints hate LSU guys.

Davis is a will. An all pro will.

Baun will be converted to Mike or Sam. They clearly felt that Queen didn’t have the bulk to play the middle.

If they don't they do a pretty good job of acting like it.

I think that was a big factor in Ruiz being so more highly rated. Cush is big enough to probably be a starting guard in a year or 2, but his biggest attribute at center is his smarts and ability to make pre-snap line calls. He loses that value at guard, whereas Ruiz projects to be a much better guard if he doesn’t stay at center. So Cush may actually prove to be a better center than Ruiz in time, but Ruiz’s value is in his versatility. And the thinking he’s a Day 1 starter.
