Will those who think the defense's struggle is no big deal

change their tune when we end up ranked 2-3 in the final playoff poll, thus having a game against Clemson and then a game against Ohio State instead of a much easier game against Oregon, or whoever ends up 4th?
Clearly there are 3 teams above and beyond all of the rest this season. Finishing 1st in the playoff poll means only having to beat one of them to win the title. A very clear advantage over the other two teams who would have to win two games against the best three.
Right now, assuming all three run the table through the conference title games, the ONLY possibility we have of not finishing first in that final poll if our defense giving up too many points. In all other aspects we are even or well beyond the other two.
We must absolutely stomp Arkansas, throttle A&M well beyond what Clemson did, and then blast Georgia by multiple touchdowns.

If we are undefeated after the SECCG (regardless of victory margins or whatever defensive "stats" anyone wants to trot out) and not #1 for the playoffs, the flaw will be more in the current system than in our defense.

So you are just assuming OSU rolls over everyone they play?
Clemson isn't moving from #3 unless one of the two above them lose.

I don't think this will happen. If LSU is undefeated, with victories over Texas, Auburn, Florida, Alabama, and Georgia, they will be ranked first.

I agree its doubtful, but if they keep winning 52-3 and Arkansas scores lots of points on us and A&M keeps it closer than their game, I can see it. Their problem will be a lack of quality wins.

Those who are STILL doubting LSU forget which conference we play in. We play in the SEC and every week is a gauntlet.
Ohio State beat (2-8) Rutgers this week 56-21. They gave up 21 points to a team that has only beat UMass and Liberty.

If you score more points than the other team you win. I don't give a shite how we do it as long as we have more points than the other team. Also, frick being afraid of playing a team that might be "hard to beat" in a semi final. If we're going to win the natty we're going to have to play the best and beat the best anyway. The defense will not play as abysmal as the did Saturday night, I refuse to believe it.

Defensive issues need to be fixed before we lose a big game not because of rankings. I don't think winning 35-14 vs 58-37 impacts the committee's decisions significantly.

OSU has played NOBODY. The toughest part of their schedule is in front of them. If they boat race PSU, Michigan and then Minnesota/Wisconsin then they may very get that #1 spot, because they will have earned it. It won't be because LSU beat Ole Miss by ONLY 21.
