Pete Maravich and Bob Petitte played basketball how long ago? Do you think maybe the game has changed a little since then? (Both would probably be successful in today's game, but probably not as successful as they were in their day).

Pete would dominate even if they're still playing basketball in the year 2525.

Great thread. Only black athletic players should play small forward on our basketball team and only white intelligent players should play qb on our football team. OMG!!!!

How the hell did that goofy white kid named Marovich ever make it in the NCAA and NBA?

I'd be on the OP's side, if the DB didnt have the offers from other schools, and ranking from the services to back him up.

This isn't some random signing of a no name player. Good offer sheet, relative high ranking, and in-state player. Sounds like a must take.

He's just being honest, and though I think the OP lacks tact with his posts, I understand what he's saying. Typically, the average white basketball player in the major conferences isn't as good of a player (or at least does not do as well) as an average black player. That's common sense, that's the way it is.

However, what do you want us to do? Kentucky seriously has about 30 more league titles than we have. They have a ton of tradition, and a coach who basically took his entire class of 5* players from Memphis to his new gig. Trent Johnson won an SEC title in his first year as head coach and has the pedigree you want to see in your coach. I have no clue how good of a player this kid is, but unless you have seen him on a consistent basis, I wouldn't pass judgment.

Derenbecker is a better prospect than Ludwig. He has been great on the AAU circuit, lighting up Kenny Boynton's AAU team last year and doing very well according to all reports this year. He is already in the ESPN Top 100, and Rivals has strongly hinted that he will be in their top 100 soon as well.

In other words, this is exactly the kind of player that Trent should be bringing in.

I hope that you are to young to remember Ricky Blanton, John Tudor, and Don Redden. Why is this board so down on White players in football and basketball? The stupid posts about why is Hester starting. Some of Dale Browns best teams had a mixture of black and white players. So do most successful programs in the country.

Wow, this thread is truly awesome. Did signing guys like Voogd, Neltner, Farrer, etc stop LSU from winning the SEC title? These two guys won't likley ever carry the load at LSU, but they are program type players that will contribute. I'd much rather stay in-state and sign guys like these than go way out West to sign guys like Voogd or Farrer. Did you even bother to look at Derenbecker's offer list? It's not like LSU is the only major school that offered the kid. Must you forget that LSU has a highly touted shooting guard coming in from Washington, they have a commitment from a nice athlete out of Mississippi and Malcolm White is no slouch either. Not to mention they aren't even done with the 2010 class. I'm going to climb out on a limb and assume Trent Johnson knows a little more about building a competitive team that we do.

I agree with you, but it isn't even fair to compare guys like Voogd and Farrer, who had no legit offers, with a top 100 player like Derenbecker.

Tyrus Thomas was not highly recruited by anyone out of high school. You probably bitched about getting skinny local talent that had just started playing baskeball when we signed him.

Exactly, this just furthers my point. Derenbecker will likely contribute more in one season that Voogd and Farrer's careers combined (assuming Farrer doesn't go wild this season which is highly unlikely).

Wasn't there a guy a few years ago that played for LSU that was from 1-A and pretty damn good....Yeah it was Rogers Washington. I also think he was the Gatorade Player of the Year too out of a 1-A program.

You lost me when you claim Pistol Pete would not be as good today. Seems like he played a while in the NBA. Why can't you let these guys get on campus before you decide they aren't good enough for LSU?
