No more than 3 years guaranteed at any point, even if they win the natty.

If they feel they have a guy who will win big at LSU, and that's the kind of money he commands, then you absolutely go for it.

You dont throw that kind of money, and longevity to a coach who hasn't proven much of anything yet though.

Then don’t get a serious head coach.

You want to come to LSU? Prove that you can win quick.

Real winners won’t mind.

Long term deals don’t have to be the norm in the NIL era. Players can freely transfer.

You are about to see some wild suggestions in these next months coming from this place. Everybody expects the best coach on the market, for 3 years, 3 mill a year, and no buyout.

And just wait till LSU looks good against Bama. A portion of the board will want Frank Wilson hired.

Then you are ok with not winning?

Care to give a list of the coaches you would expect to come to LSU on a 3 year deal?

There is not a single coach who is realistically obtainable who is a guaranteed hit. Smart, Day, Cignetti, Elko, Lanning are not leaving their jobs. Kiffin is probably staying at Ole Miss, but Florida has the inside track if he were to switch

Yes they do

This is like people thinking Jay Johnson didn’t want a pay raise. Cycling through unqualified coaches every 3 years because you want to be cheap sounds like a great way to build a successful program.

You know what "on the market" means?

You have to kick the tires on Saban, Smart, Lanning, Day and make sure they wouldn't consider it. If they somehow would, you would obviously have to give something big to land them. Im not saying any would realistically leave, but you have to make them say no.

Most of y'all live in fantasy world with incentive based contracts and prove it deals.

Thats not how the real world works and you will be left with no serious candidate.

Point is there is no flashy HC hire to make. Hiring a Clark Lea type coach would be a huge mistake. Buyout wise I bet our next hire is more similar to Elko's contract where its a middle tier P4 base salary with big incentives

And then you will hear, "This is LSU, why are we settling for a guy like this," from the exact same people.

Not going to happen

The cycle will keep happening, we’ll hire someone, first season they go 9-3 and people will want him fired

People on this board love chaos. There will be some that want the new coach fired from day 1 and will never let off that.

So a coach isn’t guaranteed the 4 years of a player’s career? That should work wonders for recruiting
