I am looking at LSU stats at the moment and I am wondering do LSU fans believe they will be able to effectively run the ball.

Against Ole Miss they managed only 40 Yards on 27 attempts.

I understand that is misleading based on Jefferson 9 Carries -32 Yards though.

Even without those numbers or Williams (who is now out for season) you have
Ridley- 1 carry 12 Yards
Shepard- 6 carries 20 Yards

Against Arkansas the LSU running game improved after what looks like they used Trindon Holliday more.
Shepard and Ridley however combined for 18 Carries 57 Yards.

I do believe the Penn State defensive line can be into the LSU backfield and stop the runner at the point of attack. I understand from reading this site that the OL is a point of weakness for the LSU Tigers.

Do LSU fans believe your Offensive Coordinator Gary Crowton will utilize Holliday enough to put his "all-world" speed on display? His best game was Arkansas when he had 9 carries, other than that his numbers look really average. Also, what is the most effective play LSU runs with Holliday?

Will Shepard get utilized? I mean he was #1 Recruit by some publications but he has only touched the ball 50 times in the 722 plays LSU has run as an offense.

As I said earlier in a thread, I do not follow LSU closely, most of my observations are based on games on TV and what I have read on this site past 2 days. So any information I have that is incorrect I am sorry for.

We haven't been able to run the ball all year, why should this game be any different?

Well I would like LSU fan's opinions I understand stats can be misleading when you take into account negative yardage for QB sacks.

I have not had the pleasure of watching LSU much this season. I was able to watch vs Washington, Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Arkansas either on TV or ESPN 360.

Wondering what the LSU faithful think, if that stats are misleading.

LSU will be able to run the ball. Either Ridley or Shepard will tear off a 12-20 yard gain then Crowton will call the following:

1st and 10: Jefferson 7 step straight dropback to pass. Sets feet and gets sacked for 8 yard loss.
2nd and 18: Ridley end around to short side for 3 yard loss.
3rd and 21: Play action pass, Jefferson rolls out and throws it out of bounds.
4th and 21: Punt.

Next series:

1st and 10: Jefferson 7 step straight dropback to pass. Sets feet and gets sacked for 8 yard loss.
2nd and 18: Ridley end around to short side for 3 yard loss.
3rd and 21: Play action pass, Jefferson rolls out and throws it out of bounds.
4th and 21: Punt.

Nest series:

1st and 10: Ridley up the middle for 12 yard gain.

I will trust CLM to be able to as we please just as we have done in the other bowl games. We have the talent and for what ever reason we didn't get it done in the season. With a month to prepair if I was a Penn st fan I would be worried.

How is Penn state's secondary?

i think shep and holiday will be the fastest people penn st's d has seen this year but crowton is an idiot and they will only get a combined 14 carries... ur right about the oline too... the only way to get those 2 the ball will be to get them to the edge and have them try to outrun everybody... sounds like crowtons speed option to the short side of the field will be a frequent call in this 1

Pretty solid, I mean we only allowed QB's to complete 54% of their passes and held teams to 183 yards through the air.

I hope GC pulls his head out of his arse and starts using the LSU talent correct. But we are talking about an OC that on the Ole Miss 32 threw 3 fricking passes!!!!!!! I wouldnt count on the LSU offense running shite.

To answer the question, in an intelligent manner, would require knowledge of Penn State's defense.
How does its D-line compare to Bama's? Linebackers to Florida's or Bama's? Secondary to Florida's?

Is PSU's defense big, strong, and fast?
Or just big and strong, e.g., tOSU?

LSU's biggest problem, besides having a dumb "Michigan Man" as head coach, is poor quarterback play. Jefferson couldn't find his arse with both hands, much less a wide open receiver. Opposing teams stack the box and beg Jefferson to attempt a pass, especially in the pocket, as opposed to a roll-out or run-pass option. LSU's coaches are calling plays like Jefferson is Drew Brees.
It's like polishing a turd.

LSU is EASY to defend and easily could have lost to Miss. State, Georgia, and Arkansas. If my math is right, that would result in a 6-6 record.

But, from what I hear, PSU's QB is pretty shitty himself.

I believe Les will burn Ford's redshirt in the bowl game and use him as our secret weapon. Penn State will not have game planned for him.

Now out of all LSU's Backs I do think Ridlley shows the most promise. Plus Miles usually suprises the shite out of us when it comes to Bowl games.

If Les does that he needs his head examined and to be run out of town fast.

But eventually all perfect records fall, Les Miles can not remain perfect in bowl games forever. I mean he was 1-2 at Oklahoma State with 1 bowl loss coming to a Big 10 school.

As I posted in another thread Big 10 is 5-4 vs SEC in Capital One Game since 2000.

Remember, those are stats against SEC defenses, recognized to be among the best in the country.

UDub also wound up winning 5 games this year & was not the pushover some expected.

Don't forget that Shep can't get through the line in a hurry, & will likely get more touches in the bowl game in preparation for what should be his coming out in 2010. He was a true FR & Miles tends to play very few of those.

LSU fans are putting their stock on Miles bowl record and more importantly - performances - at LSU. He truly has dominated come postseason.

But, as you said, he was 1-2 at OSU. And this team has been anything but dominating this season.

I still like Miles in bowls at LSU until proven otherwise. It's the one thing where he truly does have history on his side.

According to the NCAA Penn State has actually played stronger defenses than what LSU has statistically at least.

The SEC defenses were actually down as a whole compared to previous seasons as only 4 teams (LSU included) finished in the Top 50 in Total Defense.

If you had, you likely be asking, "just what have these coaches been teaching in practice," instead of your initial questions. You certainly wouldn't refer to it as a pleasure to watch either.
