After the rankings come out tonight. Or will the committee want to keep them 1 and 2 for the game Saturday?

Why do people care about this so much?
If we win, we are in good shape. If we lose, we will need some help. It's that simple. The number next to LSU and Bama, before the game, is completely irrelevant

Doesn't matter for us...does matter for bama though. They don't need anymore motivation but in the long run being 3 or 4 a loss would most likely put them out...I think at 2 they would have a shot still

Why WOULDN'T it be 1 v 2? Gives an extra reason to hype up the game for a few extra eyeballs. The loser drops to 5 or 6 any way and makes it back into the top 4 with a little help over the next few weeks.

Because it's not the committees job to rank teams in an order which would hype up a game. If LSU and Ohio St aren't 1/2 (in no particular order) I'll have less respect for the selection committee. Bama has done nothing to deserve that top 2 ranking this season. Win Saturday, and then you can claim those spots.

But it's CBS's job to hype the game - they'll just use the AP ratings if needed, since such an opportunity (i.e. #1 vs #2) rarely comes along...

This matters HUGELY! 1 vs. 2 or 3, means win or lose Saturday, rematch will happen. 2 or 3 vs. 4 means loser Saturday is out of playoff picture unless other teams lose.
