Will Florida be the first team that tries to defend LSU straight up?

All of the other teams that LSU has played so far have felt the need to put half their team in the box to stop LSU's run game. LSU has now shown over the course of several games that they can make a defense pay by actually passing instead of running into the wall. Beckham/Landry are impossible to cover in a straight 1-1 situation.

I think the key to victory vs. Florida is LSU being able to run the ball well if Florida commits more energy to slowing Mettenberger down.

Our offense is a machine. The one thing that needs to improve is the O Line. They have allowed Mett to be hit.

they have the players to do it but they also change their coverages a lot so it will be hard to for mett to tell while on the line. i expect them to stack the box at times (goalline) and to blitz at times. it would improve their chances of winning.

The way LSU lines up almost dictates putting 8 in the box. If we line up in I-form with a TE, and the defense only has 6-7 in the box, we'll run right through them.

Serious question. Is it the O-line missing assignments or is it that then D tries to send more than we can block? Also, I feel like our RB's have trouble picking up the blitz. The one time I saw Hilliard pick one up head on he got run over. Not trying to insult our guys at all. We've got great running backs but blocking doesn't seem to be their strength.

a lot of blown assignments. and it's not just the OL because...

one of the bigger issues seems to be with delayed pressure/ twists and stunts. I've seen it lead to sacks against Clemson, UGA and last night.

We have the personnel to run man and run it effectively. LSU will get its points because it is a good offense, but Florida will definitely frustrate LSU for stretches of the game.

Anything on 3rd and 8 or longer and we bring 6 or 7 and almost never get beaten. LSU is a new test though. Should be interesting. Strength vs. Strength.

Then that should be interesting. We're #2 in the country in 3rd Down % Defense.

Seriously why does everyone say teams are stacking the box against us? If we have a tight formation do we expect them to counter with 5 or 6 in the box?

Because top water just because you are in the I formation doesn't mean it's a run, teams are stacking the box against us.....safeties are playing 7 yards deep on a 1st down play just because we are lined up in what they thinkis a run formation.....

Teams ares defending the formation and tendencies. As a defensive coach you aren't going to play nickel defense against a goal line type formation. How stupid would that be?

This is why having 2 receivers like Beckham and Landry is unstoppable. They end up in single converage and Mett can play-action pass a defense to death.

The offense is a thing of beauty.

Did you not watch the TCU game? They were scared of Mett and played all their DBs off. Sometimes they went six DBs and Mett had statistically his worse game but it was also his first game and twice guys were basically holding our WRs to save TDs.

TCU hasn't let a performance close to Mett's happen again at all and they are playing some pretty good passers. With the drops and the holding our WRs in the EZ, Mett should have had over 320+ yards and 3-4 TDs. We should have won that game 52-27. We also didn't have Jeremy Hill that game so wow!

Florida will be just another team we put 35+ again. If we are slighting improving on defense, we should give up less than 400 and 21 points.
