Will Canada allow a legitimate quarterback competition?

You'd have to think Scott can pass Etling. Great coaches allow a QB competition every offseason. Etling was our starter last year but we should put out the best QB this season.
He will have an easy schedule to get used to playing at the college level before the first tough game in Florida. Our defense can easily win the other games

Canada already stated it would be an open competition. Canada will put the best person out there. If ol noodle gets the nod then so be it.

I think Etling deserves to go into the spring as starter but his spot shouldn't be set in stone by any means.

Why wouldn't he? If he has big time aspirations as a coach. It's in his best interest to put the best product on the field.

I think the coaches more than likely enjoy making 7-figure salaries. It stands to reason that they'd play whoever gives the team the best chance of winning, given that winning is what will ultimately keep the $$$ rolling in and/or create even better opportunities for them.
Whoever the starting quarterback is come September will be the guy who at that point in time, is the best at his position on the team.
There may be guys behind him with more potential, but until such time as those guys playing make the team more likely to win they'll have to wait their turn.
