Will be interesting to see what direction we go at Star without spears

Do we simply move Jhase Thomas to star and keep Cooley/Benefield at safety or do you want Thomas’s speed and range at safety and slide Cooley back to nickel? I think regardless Jhase Thomas can thrive in either spot.
He has the cover skills and physicality to play the star and has the range to play deep safety. He doesn’t quite have spears size but I think he may be faster than spears. Sucks to lose such a unique chess piece in Dashawn tho no replacing his size and versatility .

I wonder if Charles Ross could learn the star position. He sure seems athletic enough.

Star is basically like your extra nickel guy I think he can thrive there. Would make sense to slide Ty over. I guess it depends on what they feel comfortable with. You can't have bad S play it will absolutely gut a defense because they're last line of defense. They might feel more comfortable with Ty back there with Cooley since they both have way more experience.

They'll probably do what they did against OM.
Different packages, flow of the game will dictate Thomas / Jimcoily / Jackson stepping in

Ross absolutely has the athleticism it seems they moved him back To ILB after his freshmen year tho. With the injury to spears tho all options should be on the table

No idea, but defense was significantly better when Baker dropped the STAR (Jimcoily) and went back to a more traditional nickel with Jhase at safety and Cooley down in nickel.

Seems like Faheem Delane would fit the star role perfectly. Perhaps they give him a shot?

Move Ty to Star and Thomas to safety. Thomas may be better at coverage anyways.

I couldn’t see them moving their best safety to star. Could be wrong, but the star position is just a glorified nickel.
I expect it will change based off opponent and their offensive strengths. Will probably see a lot of changes in game at that position.

I think this would have to be the plan outside of GL situations
The defense was a lot more athletic and versatile once they made this move and replaced Jimcolly

Ty isn’t the most instinctual in coverage. Haulcy was much better as of now. Ty’s size makes him good around the box and he’s much more instinctual in the run game.

Kiffin was asked and said that’s a competitive advantage. Nobody is like spears length and coverage skills for that position. Truly a dynamic and unique player
