It's pretty damm obvious that twice in less than a week that he has soreness after throwing a number of pitches. It wasn't going to be heeled after a couple of days
and tightness in the arm doesn't just mean his forearm muscle was a little sore. It usually means there's something else going on and the muscles are seizing to protect further damage. (I know you know this, just throwing it out there)

Because the MRI results do not matter at this time. When he left the game with an acute injury, regardless of what it is exactly, he was done for the season. It's not worth it for him or the team. He has a very bright future and submitting him to an unnecessary injury is the worse possible thing you could do to an athlete. The big thing about athlete patients is that they are minimal reporters. In other words, they minimize their pain/symptoms during an exam so they can play. It's the nature of being competitive. It's the right move to sit him and get the MRI when they get back.

MRIs work best once swelling has gone down. It's why it takes a few days to a week before knee injuries are given an MRI

I thought the same thing, unless they are resting his arm regardless of what the tests state?

Great discussion guys. Thanks for the insight. Makes total sense, especially the last few posts

It's too risky to pitch him regardless of what an MRI tells you.

I think the best option is rest his arm, no matter what a MRI shows. MRI will not speed up the healing process and if it shows some catastrophic diagnosis, then nobody in Omaha is touching the arm until he can get to Dr. Andrews. Unsure if Bankston does elbows.
On Saturday, I would roll Poche out there for 1-2 innings if we make it that far and it appears we can win the game with someone giving us a couple of innings

I would say "only in the last few posts". The first page was filled with self-righteous posters belittling the original question. That's all it was, a question, and several took that as a chance to jump down someone's throat.

He's done for the year you fricktard, it doesn't matter when he gets the MRI. Better idiot?
I'm always curious to know what posters like this look like. The Op is asking a question that could easily be answered with a simple "the injury reoccurrence ensures that whatever the problem is won't be able to be resolved for this CWS anyway" yet someone posts some angry, condescending shite like this that they'd NEVER say to anyone in person.

I agree 100%. An MRI certainly wouldn't hurt. A little rest may be all that he needed. Been thinking this all week. Even if he can only give us a couple innings.

quote:So if he had an MRI in Omaha and it showed no structural injury, you'd make him pitch even though he had so much pain in his arm last Monday that he took himself out of a College Word Series game?
Why wouldn't Maineri get Walker an MRI in Omaha?
Why wait until they get back to BR?
Nah....

Well, getting the MRI results and consulting with Walker may change Maineri's mind, don't you think? That's my point
Dude, PM would literally be railroaded out of town by anyone with a brain if he tried to start Walker again in the CWS. His season is over, diagnosis it when you get home.
Posted on 6/23/17 at 12:55 pm to gettin there
To me, this has nothing to do with Walker pitching this week, if I was Walker or his dad I'd want to know what the frick is going on with this situation and Not wait a week until getting back to BR... That's all.
