No player is bigger than the team. If he gets runner over he scores eventually. That's something these downvoting pencil/paper arses don't understand

Why not? It’s early in the season. We have a four run Lee. Let’s try some shite.

Definitely experimenting with the offensive plays. Safety squeeze with the bases loaded and 2 outs is not a conventional call.

Based loaded and 1 out
4 run lead
4th year senior up
There’s cute and then there’s whatever that was

As a former coach, sometimes you can’t help yourself. You like to dip into the bag and see if you can pull it off. Especially if you fill there’s a decent chance to execute.

Agreed let your 4th year SR swing away and try to drive in the runs or a productive out to score the runner from 3rd

Why does it look like he's wearing a helmet that doesn't fit right?

The answer to both is.... he's just playing baseball.

I would ask several questions here as I did not watch the game:

What was the situation - outs and how many on and what base?

Is Pearson asked to bunt a lot and is he good at bunting?

Is Pearson more prone to hitting into double plays than he is to getting a hit if you let him swing away?

How has Pearson been hitting so far this year? Are you taking the bat out of the hand of a hot hitter or is he currently struggling?

There is no such animal as a safety squeeze with the bases loaded. A component of the safety squeeze is the option to remain on third with the ball on the ground.

Pearson popping the ball up didn't turn the called play into a safety squeeze. The bunter and the runner executed it poorly.

Unless there was a missed signal, bunting in that situation is mind boggling.

1 out, and it was a suicide squeeze. I get that if it works, you score a run and have RISP for next hitter.

However, anything to left side other than a pop-up accomplishes the same thing. I get practicing in a low-leverage situation, but it's not "smart baseball" IMO
