The players obviously don't fricking care, why should we or anyone else?
don’t know why the OP is getting downvoted. Clearly the players that play DO care, but with so many opt outs and portal entries, the bowl teams barely resemble themselves.

Today’s bowl games are a joke and I watch very few of them.

Some players don't care, but most do. You ever been in a locker room?

People just can chill out anymore and watch a football game unless a championship or playoffs is in the line?

Because it's New Year's Eve and I'm going to be cooking a pig in the ground and drunk.

The Texas Bowl, and many others for that matter, represent the first Spring Game of the year. Nothing more.

So after 8 regular season games, you're 6-4 and out of SECCG and CFP contention, by you're theory the team should just not play the last 2 games and bowl game ? YOU'RE SMART !!!

Because we only get to watch them play anywhere from 13-14+ times a year, that is why. Because we are fans. Because we are alum. Because it is entertaining.

This is essentially and early spring practice. It will be a chance to get PT in a meaningful game for th=asoe trying to win or solidify a position for next year so there is some motivation for those players.

The bowl game is practice for players that want to prove they can play at this level. The bowl game was very important last year for Nuss.

It is basically another set of spring practices. If the coaches see a need for a position, they will go into the spring portal to try and fill it

I love watching the young guys/backups get reps. It's great for them and fun for me to see.

If you look at it from that perspective, it's fun. If you look at it from your shitty perspective, it's not as much fun.

Because to true LSU fans, the answer is obvious

Ok, fine, that may be true. But very few include LSU.

I'm an LSU fan, and I like college football. I will watch our bowl, most of the other bowls with teams I recognize, and the playoffs.

The "why should they play" part is also obvious. Bowl teams get like 6 extra weeks of practice. Early entrants get to practice (not play) with the team. Remember in 2018, Stingley was practicing with LSU in the bowl, that was when his legend started. All American as a freshman the next year.
I've read more than one coach who rebuilt a program say- the bigger jump was going from missing a bowl to making one, than going from random bowl to Top 10 status.
Auburn, for example, is DONE with football for the year. Doors locked and lights out.
